DS still has dry flaky skin on the top of his head and forehead. I tried sensitive skin dandruff shampoo and I put baby lotion with aloe on his forehead twice a day but nothing seems to be helping. Any ideas when this usually goes away or any other recommendations? His skin just seems so dry, red and bumpy (it was before I started the shampoo and lotion too so it's not an allergy). Thanks in advance.
Re: cradle cap remedies?
If it's dry and red, it might not be cradle cap, just dry skin. Cradle cap is more of a scaly look and O's was a yellowish color. For his, the best thing I found was to massage it at bath-time with a terry cloth wash cloth. Also, if the edges started to come up a bit, I started to pull it off. Most likely not recommended, but it hasn't come back in the areas I did that on.
Some say to use Olive Oil, but I read in Parents magazine recently that may actually exacerbate the problem and using a mineral or baby oil is better. Some have had luck with coconut oil.

Our pediatrician recommended baby oil at her four month appointment this week. It works pretty well. I can see a significant difference and I've only used it a few days. We also use a fine comb to comb out her hair several times a day and after her bath.
Our pediatrician also said a pea sized amount of head and shoulders shampoo was fine to use as well on the affected areas. We haven't tried that though.
Use a little bit of baby oil and massage it on the baby's scalp with a fine baby brush. Works like a charm, is inexpensive and smells so good!
