S/O stepping away

My ILs watched the kids a week ago so we could go and see a movie. Big A slept through it like usual but little A...well he doesn't sleep, right?

Well, he screamed the entire time. They walked, they padded, they sang, they bounced. FiL took him for a car ride. Nothing. Just like so nearly every night.

So I got an email from them this morning, saying 'being with Aidan and experiencing wht you go through every day and every night makes us appreciate once more what great parents you and Andrew are. We really had no idea, even after having raised four of our own. Let us know if there is anything we can do to help out.'

I teared up.

  • What great ILs!  And I'm sorry Aidan is giving you such a rough go.  Hopefully things settle down soon.

Sorry your little guy had such a rough night. But that's great to have such wonderful support from the in laws. I know you've posted before about his sleeping and stuff but I don't remember what the pedi did and said this far. Has your LO been tested for milk protein allergy or other allergies? I mean not just by eliminating foods you're eating, but by medically testing? Just curious. Sorry if you've answered this already a bunch of times.
Ditto this.  I went through milk protein and reflux with Edison, so I get it...well not all of it, because you have two!  Cutting milk (any) out of my diet helped and getting his reflux straightend out too....but it was never great and I still don't have a kid that sleeps well.

They took a stool sample came back completely normal. There is no blood, no mucous, no weird colors. They think it is his digestive system maturing. Or, more so, they have no idea. Which they mean when they say colic.

He does have reflux and is on meds. They help. A lot. But he is still a pretty unhappy guy.

Oh, ok. At least you know it's not that. It's the worst when theres no answer and nothing to do. :. Sorry. He WILL grow out of it. I know that doesn't help now, but try to remind yourself that it goes very fast. Before you know it they'll both be in school! I'm counting the days, myself!!

I never had Edison tested, but he reacted to milk (never had blood etc either), but I self diagnosed and never cut out soy.  Just ALL milk products.  Butter...everything.  Totally a PIA and no one in my family truely believed me (except DH who witnessed it), but he got better after that.

  • aww I'm so glad to hear that they're being understanding. When our DD was crying so much I felt all this added pressure because nobody understood and they just wanted a happy baby. It's so great that they're supporting you.

    Hugs.

  • That's wonderful of them. I don't think people can possibly understand how stressful it really can be with a colic baby. You also have a 15 month old on top of that. You really deserve to hear all the comfort they expressed in their email. Awesome in laws, yes, but you're an awesome mommy with a lot on your plate. Big internet hugs to you!
