regular size car....2 rear facing carseat?

Hi ladies

Hoping you can help.  My husband and I are searching for a convertible carseat and  an infant car seat that can fit behind a standard size sedan both rear facing.  Right now Hannah's seat is in the middle, but we can't put it rear facing behind the drivers seat because it's too uncomfortable for the driver.  We have the britax marathon/boulevard.  Any suggestions on a smaller seat length/depth wise.  We would love to keep her rear facing for a least another 6 months.  TIA

  • We drive a VW Jetta and fit both girls RFing for a while. DD1 was behind the driver in an Evenflo Triumph and DD2 was behind the passenger in a Graco SnugRide 32. The Evenflo is smaller front to back than most other seats we looked at, but we were still able to keep DD1 RFing in it until she was 2y9m. At that point she outgrew it for height, but she is in the 85+% for height.

  • We currently have Graco MyRide 65's for the kids, which I love but wouldn't recommend for a smaller car because they are HUGE. We did use a Costco Scerena RFing in the 3rd row of our GMC Acadia this past summer. It fit fine, and as you know that 3rd row is narrow. My 2yr old was RFing with no problems in that seat and had plenty of room to grow. She is small though, 26lbs at 2.5yrs old.

You can take your car to BRU and try seats in your car to see what works. I had to leave my license with them in order to do this. I found this really helpful, because its so hard to know what will fit.

  • Can you move the Britax to the passenger side?  My husband has a truck and is very tall so we were really limited to what seats would fit in there.  We ended up with the Combi Coccoro which is very small but at your DD's age it probably wouldn't be very practical unless she is short.  The other seat that fit was a Britax. Are you sure you can't fit an infant seat next to the Britax?  It's not going to be easy to find a seat smaller front to back that the Coccoro or Britax.

Another suggestion would be to move your DD to a Diono Radian which is very narrow and keep that in the middle then put an infant seat on either the passenger or driver side.   That would probably be my suggestion.  Then you can also hold onto the Britax and use it for #2 when you are ready.  You'll definitely have to play around with these seats in your car and see if you can get them to puzzle well together.

Car-seat.org is a great resource for more help.

  • We have two First Years TrueFits. They were RF in my DH's Chrysler 300M until the boys were 10m and then I got a Kia Rondo and we kept them rear-facing for another 2 years in that.

  • We have a Safety 1st Guide 65 we use for DHs 3 series BMW and another one for grandma.  The seat is really nice RF & actually is so compact you can scoot the passenger side seat all the way back (22 lbs + angle) with it in place. It goes RF to 40 lbs as well. They actually have it pictured with 3 in a back seat in one of the ads...so it's made to be compact & it's a really nice seat. I think they have it at Target as well under Eddie Bauer.
