NBR: Engagement Rings

Lately I have been seeing a lot of engagement rings where the center stone is not a diamond. I really really really LOVE my diamond BUT there have been some sapphire engagement rings that I think are just gorgeous! Sooo anyone have an engagement ring that is a stone other than diamond? Care to share? Also if so, why not a diamond? I am just curious.

  • For my Aunt's first marriage she had an opal as the center stone. It was beautiful, sorry no pics, but I'm sure google can help. :)

  • My BFFs center stone is a pink heart diamond, it's gorgeous! Her wedding band is tungsten, and it matches her husband's.

  • I have a friend whose center stone is a ruby.  She didnt want a diamond.  I'm not sure why though.  But her ring is beautiful.

  • I have a friend tat has a yellow sapphire solitaire for her engagement ring. Her wedding band is yellow sapphires and diamonds. She wanted something different since she's not the traditional type... It's Gorgeous!

  • I have a sapphire center stone and I just love it. I wasn't even involved in the selection of the ring since my engagement was a total shock. I was amazed that DH picked such a perfect ring. It's a sapphire in the middle with diamonds on both sides and then I have a thin wedding band with diamond inset around the band.

I think he picked it because I have always loved blue and past gifts were usually sapphires, opals, etc.

  • One of my good friends just got engaged and her ring is a gold band that resembles a vine with yellow diamonds set into it (so no big center stone) - it is stunning and looks great with her skin tone (she's a red head with tons of freckles).

  • H and I decided after a few years our rings didn't fit/match us or our style.  He got me a traditional e-ring - it was really pretty princess cut on a raised setting with diamonds under the center stone and in the band on either side.  The wedding band matched - it was a simple diamond band but not eternity style - just like 3/4 of the way around the band was diamonds.

We each sold our rings and used the money to buy what we wanted.  Actually - he wears a James Avery crosslet ring I bought him as his wedding ring (I bought it when we got engaged) and I bought a simple gold band, and a simple diamond band to wear stacked.  For my birthday last year H got me an anniversary band and it is alternating sapphires with diamonds.  I LOVE this set - it is so much more me than the traditional one.  And I love the sapphires (hence my screen name) our anniversary is September - dating and married - and H's birthday as well so it is a special month for us.

My mom has a diamond and sapphire wedding band as well and she just loves sapphires - it isn't sentimental to them at all she just didn't want a traditional one.
