giving LO medicine

in October 2011 Moms
My LO has decided she doesn't want to take any medicine anymore. She closes her mouth, throws her head around, and cries. I have tried the syringe and spoon, without any success. Any one have any suggestions?

    I just force the syringe in to be honest. I have hidden some stuff in bottles. But then, he doesn't get anything aside from the occasional ibuprofen or Tylenol.

    Same here. It's a phase, at least that's what we went through with SD. The fun part is when they have to take pills and refuse to swallow. Fun times.

    My LO has to take an antibiotic every night for his kidney reflux. We use a dropper and he likes it because he can suck it out. Whenever he needs tylonal or motrin he refuses to take it out of the syringe.

    Normally I make sure he doesn't see the medicine coming, and just stick it in there and press the plunger down as fast as possible. If I'm sneaky enough the medicine is in his mouth and swallowed before he even realizes what happened.

    There have been times I've had to force the dropper in if he's being difficult. I don't like doing it that way, but I just do it quick and try not to make a big fuss about it.

    The only thing Gator gets is pain meds for teething/fever, but she gets bubble gum flavored and likes to drink it out of the measuring cup that comes with it.

    We also just put it in a small amount of milk (1-2 oz) in a bottle. That has been the only thing that works well for us.

    Can you find the medicine in suppository form? Here most infant medicine is sold that way which I used to be annoyed by, but last time DD had a cold I was so grateful because she wouldn't take the liquid cough syrupand with the suppository Tylenol was all I could get ither to help her feel better.

    Rocco is taking antibiotics right now and he doesn't want you to put the syringe in his mouth but once you push a little bit of the medicine in he remembers that he likes the taste and cooperates. But it's getting it into his mouth in the first place that is difficult - sometimes one of us has to hold his arms down while the other one pinches his nose to make him open his mouth and then shove the syringe in. Ugh!
