In my past experience, it's when they're sitting up and/or holding their own bottle because then they can take it out when they need to take a quick break or a breath. It's also around that time that they gain the ability to burp on their own. Right now, he holds his bottle about 2/3 of the time and burps and farts as soon as he sits up afterwards. I still burp him when I've been holding his bottle and I make sure he gets a few good burps after his last bottle before bed, but for the most part, he burps on his own and we haven't had any gas problems lately.
Re: When do you stop burping??
Ds2 sometimes burps by himself but hes still sitting supported.
If J falls asleep during his bottle, I don't even bother to burp him. He burps a lot on his own now. Especially when he's on his belly.
ETA: spelling.
