Crib vs bassinet

We're due with #2 in 2 months.. Our 1st will be a year old.. Do you think it would be smart to buy another crib or just a bassinet?? Did you use a bassinet??

thanks

Re: Crib vs bassinet

  • You said your oldest is a year old -- are you talking 12 months old or 23 months old? If closer to 12 months, I would definitely buy another crib. Bassinets get outgrown so quickly (by 2 or 3 months, usually) and your older child won't be ready for a big kid bed.

If your older child is close to 2, you might be able to get by with a bassinet for the newborn for a couple of months while you transition the older child to a toddler or twin bed. Do you have a pack-and-play you could use? I would do that over a bassinet; it will last longer.

  • My first two are 22 months apart, and #3 will be arriving in April - 25 months after #2. Personally, we have a bassinet in our room, which the baby stays in until roughly 6 months. Then we move them to a pack 'n play until about 1, when we transition them to the crib. We have used the same crib for all the kids, and the spacing has worked pretty good.
