Weirdest thing ever at our house tonight. DS typically adores bath time - like squeals with delight anytime baths are mentioned. A few nights ago, he was happily playing and then all of the sudden lept from the tub like he was on fire. Clinging to me all wet and screaming. Wanted nothing to do with getting back in. Seemed strange, but whatever. Tonight he won't even put his foot in! I tried to put him in and he jumped back out, screaming and crying and frantically scrambling over the side of the tub. Nothing is different - same tub, same soap, same water temp... I had to forcefully keep him in ling enough to wash tonight because he really needed a bath. What to do when/if this repeats?? Is this normal? It certainly doesn't seem normal!
Re: Oh my god. Help.
I agree that something scared him that you perhaps didn't see. I know that they can develop fears at this age, and that's normal!
My son had a few episodes of not wanting to bathe, and being afraid of the bath. I have found that a new, exciting toy has always worked.
We moved back in the fall, and I will say that my son did have a difficult time taking a bath in the new tub. He was somewhat okay at first, and then his bath toys fell on him and scared him so it was a disaster. I tried both the new toy, and getting in there with him, and I think both helped, but the new toy was the best option.
Good luck!
Taking it slow and not forcing him helped. And bribing him with bath crayons totally helped. Those things are awesome.
Sounds like I'll have to pull out the bath crayons tomorrow night! He'll take a shower with me, but not by himself, so bath it has to be!
