Still not sitting up?

Graham was a preemie, so I'm trying to accept the fact that he may be a little slower to reach his milestones than most babies his age. He has reached all of his milestones so far, but I'm concerned that he's not sitting up unassisted yet at 6.5 months. It doesn't even seem like he's interested, because he a lot of times he refuses to bend at the waist when I try to help him sit up.

Are anyone else's LO's not sitting unassisted yet?

Re: Still not sitting up?

  • My guy isnt sitting yet either. He is 6.5 months too. Im not concerned at all, he is thriving otherwise! GL!

  • She JUST started sitting unassisted, like yesterday and she'll be 6months tomorrow.  She just had no interest in it... The same with rolling, she didn't roll over until 4 months...But was then rolling over and over and over all across the room 2 days later... It's all about their time schedule!

  • DD has rolled a total of 3 times. She can sit for about 20-30 seconds if we position her in the right spot... Then she falls. I'm not concerned and neither was the pedi.

  • At his 6 month appt earlier this week when the pedi tried to get him to sit up and he kinda wobbled everywhere he laughed and said he looked like a drunken sailor...haha.

    My first son wasn't really stable with sitting until 7 months, so I'm not worried. I think the normal range is 6 to 8 months.

  • I just double checked on the CDC website and sitting unassisted is a 9mon milestone. You have plenty of time!

  • Rob is getting better but he still leans forward to support himself and topples over within a few minutes.

    I understand what it feels like to worry that your child might be behind their peers. Here is a developmental development chart published by March of Dimes:https://www.marchofdimes.com/baby/growing_indepth.htmlThat chart indicates that sitting up is a month 7 milestone so MOST typically developing babies will sit up by the end of the 7th month.nbsp;Here is a development chart from the NIH with 6 month milestones.nbsp; The 6 month sitting milestone is sitting with support.https://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/002008.htmAnd now I'm depressed.nbsp; I should not be looking at these stupid developmental charts.nbsp;Oh, mine's not sitting without support yet.nbsp; One of our docs mentioned 10 months as when he thinks she'll be able to.nbsp; I think it will be sooner. nbsp;

    Thanks so much for such a detailed reply! I just wanted to tell you that I've read a lot of your posts on here and I really admire you. I teach special ed., and the students I've worked with that have had DS are some of the sweetest that I've taught.
