How much does your LO sleep during the day? (Repost from jan 2013 moms)

My little guy sleeps a lot during the day and I'm always worried he won't sleep at night. He wakes up sometime around 7:30 - 8:30am.  Is Awake for a couple hours and then sleeps most of the afternoon usually until 5ish.  I have to wake him to feed him.  He seems to still sleep fine in the evening, going down about 9:30 - 10:30pm and waking up every 3 hours or so.

 Normal?

  • I was just getting ready to post something about this. LO had been sleeping 2 hours at a time throughout the day. She was pretty much eat every 3 hours, I'd keep her awake for about 45 minutes to a hour, then she'd nap for 2. She'll be 9 weeks this Wednesday. At night she might sleep 4-5 hours, but most of the time it's 3. The last couple days she doesn't sleep hardly any during the day. She's just taking little cat naps. And she's really not sleeping any more during the night. Today she's been up all day it seems! I'm really hoping she sleeps good tonight. At 2 months do babies normally start staying awake more?

  • Dd is only awake for 6090min and then naps 30min. However, in the afternoon she takes a 3hr nap. At this age babies need lots of sleep! And they say sleep begets sleep, so if anything an overtired/stimulated baby would probably not sleep well at night!

  • Our LO just turned 1 month. I wake him up during the day to eat every 3 hours (so that means he naps 1.5-2 hours at a time). I seriously think he'd keep going if I let him. I keep hoping he'll go longer at night, but so far he's 3-4 hours exactly overnight.

  • DS sleeps all day. Yesterday when we brought him home he went straight to sleep.

  • My dd is 9 weeks and she sleeps a lot. I heard the better they sleep during the day could result in better sleep during the night.
She is usually awake for 60 to 90 mins at a time then needs to nap. Every nap is different. Some last 45mins and some are 3hrs.
  • Including all sleep for the day, DD sleeps about 16-18 hours per day.  Most of that is at night (one long stretch and then one or two 2-3 hour stretches, but she will take a few good naps during the day if I put her up in our room or the nursery, away from DS and I making tons of noise.
