Hello,
I have been reading some posts on this board for a little while and am kind of liking it. This is our first baby and I will be 39 in 2 weeks!!! My husband will be 41 at the end of February. Have been very nervous about becoming pregnant at an older age and my husband does have Downs Syndrome on his side of the family his nephew who is in his middle 20s. I am an elementary/special education/literacy teacher. I currently work as an assistant teacher in 1st grade at a private school since it has been so hard to find a teaching job in NY. Teaching is a career change for me I have worked as a Licensed Veterinary technician for the past 16 yrs. I have 2 cats, 2 dogs, and 2 horses.
My horse is my baby she is going to be 27 this year and I have had her since she was 3!!! My Jack Russell is going to be so jealous since he is my baby!!!
I just had my 1st US this past Friday. Saw the little peanut and saw the heartbeat!!! I am 8 weeks today.
I am currently on the Sept board but I have to admit I am the oldest on there and sometimes they get mad or upset at what people say for the littlest things. I have noticed on here that you do not seem to be that way. I think being older might help. I am still on that board because it is nice to see how I am doing with MS ect
Sorry for the rant, I just wanted to finally post and get to know all of you:)
Re: New to this board
Congrats and Welcome!! I am 39 and this is my 3rd pregnancy. I had a a pretty big space between 2 and 3 (11 yrs). This is my DH's 1st baby and he is super excited
Hoping you have a happy and healthy 9 months!!
Thank you nice being on this board with more woman my age!!! Makes me feel better lol
Welcome! DH and I are expecting another DD in May....we already have a 14 year old DD and 12 year DS. I conceived at 42 and will deliver at 43. The pregnancy was a complete surprise for us.
I know you have concerns about Downs...but I always try to look at the upside of the stats. At my age, the chance of Downs is 1:40, but that also means that 97% of babies born to women 43 years old will NOT have it! You're a spring chick compared to me....try not to worry. They can do an ultrasound at 11 weeks (up to 13 weeks I think) where they can take measurements of the back of the neck and look at the bridge of the nose. This, coupled with some blood work, can make a pretty accurate prediction regarding the likelihood of Downs. My chances improved from 1:40 to 1:750 based upon my results. You may want to ask your OB about that non-invasive testing to give you some peace of mind.

Oh good glad I did not offend you. Just so different when you are in your later 30s than in your 20s lol glad to meet you!!!
Hello and thank you for your reply. Yes we have talked about the testing and the scan we can do at around 1113 weeks we are going to do that and bloodwork just for some idea. I am trying to just relax. Now that I have had my first US and saw heartbeat I am better!!!
Oh great!!! Another woman who has two JRT mine is lazy just turned 12 my boy!! He is going to be so jealous even my husband tells me this. What kind of horse so you have. Great to meet you!!
I have heard that that is reassuring.
Congratulations on your pregnancy! I'm sure it was exciting to see your little nugget's heartbeat. Welcome to the board.
Other AMA friends warned me that the BMBs are catty, and it's true for July, but there are some helpful posts if you can just scroll right on by the drama.
Wishing you a happy and healthy pregnancy!

I am 38 and due to have a RCS on Thursday. This is our second, we have a 4.5 year old son.
I am also a teacher! Well, I am not working right now but plan on looking for the fall. The market is competitive all over the country it seems. I moved from GA to WA and it's hard to find a teaching job in both places. Weird.
Glad your U/S went well and you got to see your little bean. Best of luck for a happy and healthy 9 months!!
Hi there. Congratulations on your pregnancy. Seeing the heartbeat for the first time really is pretty mind blowing.
Reading you post made me realize I've been feeling similar to you in terms of my birth month board. I've been posting mostly on the August board and quietly lurking on this board so I haven't made an intro as well. This is my first pregnancy. I am 39 and will be 40 when I deliver. I go back to the August boards because everyone is at or near the same week as me in terms of what our bodies are up to, along with certain tests and benchmarks.
Admittedly, I'm feeling pretty old on the August board not just in age but in terms of the...ah...maturity level with regards to the tone some of the posts, arguments, etc. and I have to agree with you that it doesn't seem that way with the over 35 set.
I feel like I might be heading this way a lot more as well.
Anyway, this was a long response but I just want say welcome over-35-first-time-mommy!
Hi and welcome,
I just joined myself. I just turned 40 in December and we conceived just a week before that. So technically I was 39 when we conceived
It will be our first child and I actually moved from the September board to the August board with a new dd of August 31st.
See you around
Gosh. Thank you for sharing. I feel the same way about maturity level on my birth month (September) group. I like the September board because it relates to my time and due date. However, sometimes people get attacked on the posts just for sharing another valid opinion on a subject.
I wonder how many August/September moms are on this board? I am due 9/4. ...will post on that.
Welcome. I am fairly new to posting on any of the boards though I have been lurking around for a few weeks. This board seems very welcoming.
I agree about the birth month boards. I am on the August board as my due date is August 25th but I don't post there much. Mostly I sit back and watch the fur fly. It will settle down some soon I hope.
I am also almost 39. My birthday is coming up the first week of March. My DH will turn 42 in June. This is my 4th baby. I also work in education. I am a ed. assistant at a charter school. I currently teach reading groups and do playground supervision. My oldest, who is 16 and a jr. in high school, intends to become a vet tech or surgical vet tech. She just finished a job shadow at our vet's office and they wanted to figure out a way to keep her. She is a horse girl too. In fact, we are heading off to her first Oregon High School Equestrian Team (OHSET) meet this weekend. She has been riding since just after she finished kindergarten. Our other two kids, ages 12 and 8, are swimmers on a year-around club swim team.
Congrats on seeing that heartbeat. It is exciting, isn't it? Once again, welcome. I look forward to getting to know you better.
