Are you party planning already ?

Help me settle this with DH. He is calling me crazy because i booked a place for DDs party in june already, decided on motive and have started  to purchase decorations. Im a planner and i already have my churchs valentines carnival, DHs big (50+people surprise 30th birthday party),in march, my sisters shower in may, so for me is only logic if im planning them all and see a deal, go after it even if its a little early...

So, normal or crazy early ????

Re: Are you party planning already ?

  • Definitely normal. If I had the money now I would have already purchased everything but I have definitely started pinning ideas and talking about when and where. I am definitely a planner too.

  • Last year, I waited until 2 months prior to DD's first birthday before calling around to reserve a place for her party and it was too late for all of the places that I'd had in mind. We ended up having to rent a small pavilion at a park and it was SO stinking hot outside (this was back in FL). We made due with the location, but if I had looked into rentals earlier, we could have reserved an indoor hall with A/C instead.

So, I don't think it's crazy to plan it this early if you have a particular place in mind that you want to have the party at.

  • I don't plan this early, but I also don't invite that many people. We just stay at home. I did start to think what kind of theme I wanted but I will change my mind about 50 times.

  • I've started planning already, but because we have a busy few months ahead of us too. I would have started buying too, but I'm currently in clean up mode before baby 2 gets here, so I'll wait. FWIW, my hubby would feel the same as yours. He'd plan it a week before if he was left in charge.
  • Yes, just started planning this weekend.  I've got the theme decided and started pinning ideas.  Haven't bought anything yet, but would like to book a place to have it.  We both have large families that live close so it's usually too many for our house.  Plus we just sold our house back in Nov. and haven't bought a new one yet (currently looking).  Now that I have a theme in mind, I can start buying stuff as I find it.  I don't think it's crazy at all.  I don't want to be insane trying to plan it in less than a month because I didn't prepare.

  • If I had as many events coming up as you, then I would start now too! What a busy/fun couple of months you have coming up!

But I think we are keeping DD's party small, family only.  My MIL has a great house for parties - big open kitchen, lots of room to play in the living room, a patio, big yard and best of all - a pool! We had her party there last year and I think we will have it there again this year.

And as far as theme - DD is loving Minnie Mouse right now (she even fed Minnie oatmeal for breakfast this morning). So Minnie will probably be the theme.

I was going to say I haven't started planning but as I typed this out, I realized I guess I have since I know where the party is and the theme. lol!

  • I have to say I am a planner and I have already started as well.  Last year I waited until about 2 months prior to his bday and found that I was rushed for times (I am a DIYer).  So I say kudos to you for starting early!!

I learned my lesson last year and have already started the process as well!  Won't be as big this year (number of people wise) but I plan to make every bday a special one for DS since my mom did for us!

  • DH actually brought this up to me about a month ago...and I started looking at options.  But right now it's kinda pushed to the side as we are planning a cruise for my 40th in April, I'm angling to take off opening day, we are planning a road trip later in the summer for an out of town family reunion, work being busy as hell and everything else.  But I did start looking at options at least!

  • :) thanks, ive shown your responses to DH, he still thinks im nuts, but now he thinks is a girls thing, and we all are crazy, but at least he let me purchase tinkerbell favors with 70% of at party city yeiiii :)
  • I think it's normal! DH and I have talked about it. The one thing will change is to cut down on DIYs because they're just so time consuming. I may still bake the cake but we may have it at a playplace or something...easy clean up :)

  • Completely normal....or I'm crazy too! We already have a theme picked out, and I will book the community pool the first week in Feb (aagh, 2 weeks away). We have several things between now and then too. (Vacation / brother's wedding)

I'm a huge planner, so I would be a mess if I wasn't planning way in advance.
