  If swaddling blankets = receiving blankets (small, thin cotton or flannel blankets), then I've been told you can't have too many. Aside from swaddling, they're great to use as burp cloths, wipe up drool and so much more.  The thicker, cute-type blankets are the kind that are semi-useless, as they are not as versatile, and you aren't supposed have blankets in the crib with baby when they sleep, so they're mostly for decoration.

  I have 2 swaddling blankets that can be used when LO is sleeping since they velcro tightly around her. I also have 2 from DS but his were blue so I got 2 pink ones for this LO.

  Yes! Well, I guess I held onto them for four years between DS#1 and DS#2, what's another few months? Thanks ladies!

  I must have had 15 to 20 of the flannel receiving blankets when dd was a baby! But she was super attached to the feel of them. It didn't matter wich one it was but she HAD to have one at all times.
  
  I used them for everything toospit up, leaking boobs, drool, wiping her nose... so we went through several each day.
