White noise! Even now at 2, DS sleeps with his homedics sounds & lullaby machine; he prefers the rain sounds. It also has a projector which serves as a nice night light.

We also use this one on the ocean sound. That machine also has lullaby noise but it would drive me crazy to listen to it all the time. Our video monitor picks up the sound machine pretty clearly.

We use an iPod and dock in DS's room still. It has a rain song on it. For DD I had a hard time finding a docking station I liked so I ended up getting one from Pottery Barn Kids which already has 6 or so white noise sounds built in plus you can still dock an iPod. So far I'm happy with it.
We use air purifiers as white noise machines for our LO. They work great and we like to have them on now when we sleep! LO also uses the sleep sheep and it works well too.
For DD, we use the Graco Sweet Slumber machine. I like that you can hook up an mp3 player to it. We used it a lot with DS when he was a baby. My only complaint is that the cord started to short out a little bit and it has to be jiggled around to get it to work. But I do love it.

We have the basic Homedics sound machine. We use that on the ocean sounds every night along with a piano lullaby CD. Both girls listen to the Sweet Dreams Piano Lullabies CD by the O'Neill Brothers every night. I even have the CD on my iPhone for vacations.

We have the The First Years Sounds For Silence white noise maker and it's been a life saver. We first bought it while traveling on a trip in which LO was having difficulty sleeping. Worked great and have never stopped using it since! We use it for naps and bedtime. You can use the AC adapter for most cases, but I send it to the daycare with her and it can run on batteries too.
