Pumping and lining up the horns

Almost every time I pump, one of my nipples ends up unaligned correctly in the horn. It starts out right in the center and then halfway through the pumping session it moves up against the wall of the horn. So I try to readjust it while I'm pumping which is a PITA.  Does anyone else have this issue?

I'm using XL horns because it seemed like those would help me get the most milk (wider latch?) but now maybe they are too big and that's why I'm moving around.  How can you tell if your horns are the right size? TIA!

Re: Pumping and lining up the horns

  • This happens to me too and I just adjust once or twice during the pumping--I've gotten to where I don't have to disconnect or turn turn the pump off.  I use my hand to break the suction under the shield and then I quickly adjust and then move my hand to re-establish suction. (I notice I have to adjust more if I'm getting a lot of milk--the weight of the filling bottles pulls)

There are some online pics of a good fit v a poor fit for the horns but I don't remember the link...maybe someone else will.

  • Mine slide around if I have lanolin on my nipples, so I try to wipe off any excess before pumping. ?I like to have a teeny bit on there though to get a good seal. ?Not sure about horn sizing though, I have soft flexible ones that I think are supposed to be one-size-fits-all.
  • I have to readjust quite a bit during pumping but I recently read that you SHOULDreadjust nipple several times to access different openings and ducts in your nipples and breasts.
