C section moms

Trying to keep the conversation going tonight.

If you plan on having more kids, are you going to try for a VBAC and do a RCS?

At this point I think I'll do a RCS. I would actually be a good candidate for a VBAC should I not have a recurrence of HELLP but we are 80% sure we only want two kids and I feel anxious around a vaginal birth. Plus, I have no desire to go through labor.

Re: C section moms

  • My OB does RCS at 39 weeks so ill be doing that. After the ridiculous labor I had, I'll be okay a with walking into a hospital with my DH and my bags and walking out three days later with a baby. I wanted to have a natural birth, but sometimes your plans just get thrown out the window.

  • I had no choice with either of mine, I had to have a c-sect. I didn't have any issues with either one. Although, for the second, my water broke and I did end up going into labor. Within in three hours I was 7cm and being rushed into surgery. I really had no desire to ever experience labor, and was actually not dissapointed at all knowing that I couldn't ever have a vaginal birth.

  • If given the choice, I am not sure which I would pick. My doctor doesn't schedule c sections unless medically necessary. It was very nice having 5 days in the hospital for my first child but I don't think that would work well for more. No labor pains was nice though!

  • Csection again over here. My first one was scheduled and medically necessary so I don't have a choice with my second.

  • RCS here, I honestly don't feel like dealing with labor.

I think I'll go RCS as well. I feel the exact same way as you Starry. With a c section, I know what I'm gettin. And I imagine things are far less traumatic with a scheduled csection as opposed to an emergency one like I had.

This was my second baby and a rcs. It was so relaxed this time. And I found recovery easier also.
  • I like the idea of walking in, having a RCS, and going home a few days later.  It's the unknown that scares me.  Seeing others post about ripping, episiotomies, things not healing, things tearing again... frankly that terrifies me.  The thought of trying to have sex and having the area rip apart again is horrifying.  The possible complications for a VBAC are pretty nasty too.  Ugh, now I'm talking myself out of baby #2.  Kidding... I think.

If I do a VBAC, it'll be medicated for sure.  I practiced my breathing methods for hours before I finally asked for the epidural and OMG the difference was amazing.  I was so exhausted and worn out by the time they gave me the drugs and I only made it to 3 lousy cm on my own.

  • RCS

Dr. said most likely the same circumstances will be present, so Id rather hAve it scheduled than the horrorible experience/pain that happened this time.  But totally notlooking forward to recoverywith 2+ other kids.

side note:  the FB group had this post and many replied that certain hospitals and DR's refuse to do VBAC....crazy

  • IF ::big if:: we have more kids, it would depend on what shape I am in if I would try a VBAC. I will need to lose at least 100 pounds and just be healthier in general. If I were to get pregnant right now, I would do RCS.

There is also the fear of the unknown. With an RCS, like pp said, I know exactly what to expect. I am terrified of real labor. LOL

  • We're done now, but I knew after my first c/s that I wouldn't even attempt a VBAC and my thoughts on that never changed. The first couple days after surgery were more painful I thought, but I felt better much quicker than I did after the first time b/c I didn't go through a failed induction.

I also wanted to have a tubal knowing that we would be done.

  • should we have another i plan on vaginal birth but if kid is breech again heck yeah it will be a cs.

I honestly dont think i want to have another child though. In my teens and 20's i wanted 6 but in my mid thirties reality is feeling more like one:)

  • RCS all the way!!!! I loved mine, never felt a contraction. Checked into the hosp and under an hour later I was holding my girl. And my scar is tiny. LOVED my c section! I highly recommend having one!

I'm surprised in Canada they don't offer VBAC for breech Moms. My doctor said breech FTM's are her best VBAC candidates.

As for me, I'm REALLY torn. Because I had a scheduled C-section (due to breech presentation), I never experienced labor at all. My C-section was awesome (way better than expected). I'm leaning towards only 2 kids (but I hate that if I wanted 3 or 4 not doing a VBAC for my 2nd is a bad idea). I've always wanted a natural childbirth, but I think I may be crazy for wanting that so badly!

If I had to decide today, I'd schedule a RCS on or around my due date and try for a natural birth if I go early and stick with the C-section if my due date comes and he/she isn't out yet. I do know 100% I am NOT ok with an induction and would far prefer just to do a RCS rather than labor with pitocin than end up with a C-section.

  • Oh yes! I have has 2 c sections and have no desire to have a vaginal birth. I pushed for three hours with my first and started bleeding and was rushed in for an emergency cs.
  • I'd do a RCS. Right now, we'd like to have three kids. My OB does not recommend a VBAC for me. I have a prominent sacral bone and pushed for two hours before it was determined he wouldn't come the old-fashioned way. After I delivered a 9lbs. 13oz. baby, I have no desire to attempt to push one or two more of those out.

  • I've had two RCS and will do it again if we decide for a fourth child (we're still on the fence). My first was an emergency c/s after 17 hours of labor. That sucked and the recovery was a bish so a big "no thanks" to doing that again. Both of my RCS have been really great experiences, though I will say that I had way more anxiety going into them than the first c/s. I think because I knew what was coming and was fully cognizant of everything going on around me. Honestly, nothing was even close to as bad as I had convinced myself if would be. Also, I've never spent more than 2 days in the hospital after an RCS. Recovery has been super fast and easy for me. Didn't even need the pain meds once I got home. I'll totally go that route again.

  • Trying for a VBAC for the second, definitely. And if my Dr. says I am not a good candidate, I will find another doctor that will let me at least try.

I had a 36 hour induction that got me to a whopping 3cm. I just wouldn't dilate. I want the real thing. My c-section was no big deal at all, but it just wasn't what I wanted.
