Guns

Does your household own any guns?

Do you know how to shoot?

If so, what kind do you have?

We went to a gun show today... And I never thought I'd say this... But I want a Berretta Nano. I've only ever shot a glock.. Once. So I'm no expert. But if we get one for me.. I am definitely going to the range!

How about you?

  • Good lord no no no no no. Well I'm a Canuck, and we aren't into hunting, so that'll explain it on this end I guess.

  • No to all of the above. I am terrified of them. I don't think I have ever even seen one in person and I am hoping I never do. My dad and brother are really into them though.

    this!!

My husband really wants me to get his gun licence with him. I was going to do it, but I'm pretty anti-gun. Especially with the horrific shootings lately.

I would never let a gun in my house. No way, no how. Nope, nope, nope.

Me too! I've realized that if its in our home... I need to learn how to use it. Otherwise it's pointless to have in an emergency.

This, except mine is a S&W M&P. It has interchangeable grips so it's fits my midget hands perfectly. DH and I both have our licenses to carry concealed. DH shoots competitively for fun and has too many guns to count (all locked in our giant safe in the basement).

  • Does your household own any guns? No, but we will soon. DH has never shot one, so we are going to try out a few before we decide on which one to get.

Do you know how to shoot? Yes. I grew up with guns in our house.  There wasn't a gun that we didn't know how to shoot. We we taught to respect guns and not fear them.

If so, what kind do you have?

  • We own a variety. I personally have a springfield xd 9mm subcompact which is a great womans gun. It barely kicks. I am pretty accurate with it but will go for the shotgun if someone broke in. ;

  • We are a no gun household. Ive shot handguns before at the range and it was fun, but Im not cool with them in my home

  • We have 2 guns, both shotguns. One is my DH's dad's gun, and one is DH's newer shotgun. Both are used for hunting. I've never shot either.
I have taken a hunter/gun safety class, and DD will take one as soon as she's old enough to get it. I've only ever shot rifles. I grew up in a household with guns, where we were taught how to respect them and use them responsibly.
That said, I'm not thrilled about having them in our house. They are a big responsibility.

  • DH is in law enforcement. So yes, we own guns. A few handguns, an AR he bought last year on discount when the department changed their issues ones, and a shot gun.

We have a safe in our master closet as well as a tall safe in our basement storage area, in a locked room away from the family areas of the basement.

I have never shot a gun. DH grew up with them but I am from a no gun house. I am not super comfortable having them, but with the safes and other precautions DH takes to secure them I forget we own them. He doesn't hunt either, so they don't get removed from their safes often. Only when he goes to the range or cleans them.

Someday I want to learn how to use them. But I'm really scared. My husband tried to teach me how to load the handgun just in case and I started crying uncontrollably. It was pretty crazy and embarrassing. I still can't believe I had such a strong reaction to holding it!!!

A similar thing happened with us! I didn't cry, but I was very freaked out and didn't want to touch it. I hate the noise of him cocking it back. :-/

DH has a glock and a rifle or shotgun (I never remember the difference). I'm not crazy about having them in the house.

I shot clay pigeons with a 10-gauge when I was 14 or 15. It was kinda fun. I've been way more sensitive to violence since DD was born. My main fear of having a gun in the house is that I would somehow load it in my sleep. DH actually laughs at this, because I'm barely strong enough to pull the thing out (again, I don't know these terms) to put the ammunition in, so the chances of me accidentally loading it or shooting it are extremely slim. But I've been known to walk, talk, shower, and make waffles in my sleep, so it just makes me nervous. We keep the ammunition away from the guns.

  • I'm not a fan, and unless my police officer family members are over, there won't be guns in my home.

I just read Guns by Stephen King , it's only 25 pages and I thought it was fantastic. King is a gun owner btw.

  • DH has many guns.  I am not even sure what he has.  We have a huge safe in a back room next to our finished basement.  We also have a finger print safe for his handgun in the bedroom.  He has a whole room locked off where the big safe is and he makes his own bullets.

I have never shot a gun.  It is a hobby of his. I have mixed feelings at times.

  • Yes & Yes.

Technically all guns in the house are licensed to DH or my father, so I personally don't have any.  I couldn't begin to tell you what kinds of hunting rifles DH has, I know my Dad has a Browning in the safe, there is a Glock, an AR.  They are all locked up and the only reason I ever go into the safe is if my jewelry is in there.

  • Yes we have several guns in our home. We have a glock handgun, an AR, several hunting rifles and a .22 rifle. My husband is prior military and a certified instructor. I grew up in a household where guns were "bad" and it took me a long time to warm up to them. My husband takes gun safety incredibly seriously which is the main reason I am comfortable having them in our home. We have a gun safe for the larger weapons and a small safe for our handgun in our room.

I have shot all of the guns we own but am most familiar with the handgun.  My husband is gone from our home for 12 hours per day and I practice with it about once a month. I hope to never use it but feel its important to be trained with it and ready to use it if needed. (I also live in a slightly rural area and feel better being able to protect myself & DS)

  • The AR terrifies me. It's too big! The glock I can kinda tolerate...but I prefer a 9mm.

    I think he also has a .22.

I also have the S&W M&P but the 40 cal. I live in the country and refuse to ever be somones victim or not be able to prtect my little one if somone were to break in.

I agree it is pointless if you don't know how to shoot. But if you are educated adn practice adn keep them safely away from your LO it's a good choice (for me)
