Birthday Parties

First off - hey all!  I was active on this board when I was pg, but haven't been back until now.  I'm normally on PCE or ProBoards.

Anyways, P's birthday party is in 2 weeks.  We'll have 30-40 people there.  For anyone else that's done or are planning parties - what food did you serve?

We're doing a Seuss-themed party and I'm making cute decorations and favor bags, but I don't want to spend a fortune on food.  I think we may do pizzas, a veggie tray, fruit/cheese/crackers tray, then cupcakes.

Any ideas or suggestions?  Also, any other tips?

Re: Birthday Parties

  • I think that's perfectly reasonable. To me it depends on what time the party is. But either way you seemed to have it covered since piZza can be your entree.
We really aren't having a party for dd. Just immediate family is going out to dinner. But with my 6 year old I base it around time. Now that he really cares more about his friends coming than adults I do his parties at 2ish and just serve cake and ice cream.

  • We are doing our party from 4-6 PM, so we want to have at least some real food available.  Also, we want it to be baby-friendly (read: healthy), at least a little.  Our theme is ladybugs.  We will do chili earlier in the day and have it available in the crock pot.  A fruit bowl of watermelon and red grapes.  A cheese tray, interspersed with babybel cheeses that have the wax cut off to look like ladybugs.  A tray of cornbread and sweet potato muffins.  A salad with a few different dressing options.  A vegetable tray with carrots and zucchini on a toothpick, they will be cooked for the LOs to eat, and will be cut in flower shapes (zucchini will be the leafs and carrots the flower).  Then also we are making chocolate-covered pretzels that are dipped to resemble ladybugs, and ladybug cupcakes.  I think that's it!!

  • I saw a cute "green eggs and ham" snack on pinterest that would be cute! It's - 2 pretzel sticks molded together with a bit of white chocolate, topped with a green m&m!

I have that pinned on my Pinterest - I might try to make them.  There are so many cute Seuss ideas it's hard to not go overboard.

  • I'm getting a plain sheetcake from Costco and decorating it myself. The party theme is Minnie Mouse, but I'm keeping it simple... Also, our party is only about 20 family members. Chips, guac, fruit, and a burrito box variety from Chipotle...it's DD's favorite, and easy and pretty cheap! Winwin.
