Max wakes up at 5 every single day and has for as long as I can remember. Sometimes it is 4:50. Once in a while it might be 5:30 but very rarely. Does anyone else's toddler get up this insanely early? I've learned to deal with it but reading the thread below I realized it seems like everyone else's baby's wake up normal early, not crazy-person-early!
I don't bring him into bed with us because that leads to him waking earlier and earlier and wanting to come in our bed. We are in the process of weaning and are down to one nursing session a day - first thing in the morning. I try to offer him milk and food first and we go downstairs before nursing but he is absolutely miserable until he's nursed, then he is just happy and up for the day! He goest to bed at 7 and STTN. Anyone with me? I am hopeful that when we cut out that last session (hopefully sometime in the next week...) he will start sleeping later....
Re: Any other extremely early risers?
DD always woke up between 4:30 and 5:30 to nurse. Then we would fall back asleep in my bed. Good news is, once she weaned, she started to fully STTN until at least 7:30 am, if not later.
She does have a later bedtime, though, around 9pm. She simply doesn't sleep any more than 10 or so hours at night, so we went with a later bedtime instead of an early start to the day. Hopefully once you are done weaning, Max will start sleeping in a little bit for you!
I would also try to push for a later bedtime.
The girls go to bed at 8:30, and DD2 typically wakes up between 6:30 and 7:00
It might suck, but I would stay with him in the dark in his room until a more desirable wake up time. It might help teach him that it is not time to wake up yet, and you might get lucky and he falls back asleep while you are in there.
I should have added... You would probably need to delay his entire daily schedule for this to work. It's really no different than when we change our clocks in the spring and in the fall.
Have you considered trying a gro-clock or something similar. I think our LO's are old enough to start being introduced to "stay in bed until the sun comes up". It may take awhile to work, but at least it won't hurt anything and won't likely cause him to wake up any earlier.
If DD was consistently waking at that time I'd try anything!
The Gro Clock changed my life!!! For real. However, I wouldn't even dream of trying it with DD2 just yet. The age recommendation on it is 2 years old, and I wouldn't really go with a child younger than that. Well, not my children anyways - I know they just wouldn't be ready.
yep, 5, and thats with a 8pm bedtime
nothing works for sleeping long (we have tried, no responding, going in and offerng milk or water, rocking, nursing, nursing in our bed, etc etc).
i try to just accept it, but its hard when you wake up and see the 4 on the clock. oh well, one day they will sleep longer
I agree! My heart falls when I see the 4, and anything in the 5s seems AWESOME. How sad!
