Migraine triggers

So migraines are new to me. I am in the process of figuring out if mine are triggered by food. If you experience these, what are your triggers for migraines?

Re: Migraine triggers

  • If these are migraines for me....they start out like a regular headache (I don't know why) and light, motion, noise make them worse.  I think for us they could be hormonal though?  I seem to get more when I am pregnant.

  • Mine are just like migraines without the light sensitivity and I don't lose vision in my left eye. Otherwise they're just as painful and difficult to get rid of. Caffeine is the only thing that helps mine. That and drinking lots of water.

  • I've had migraines before now. Never been to a doctor to confirm them or whatever but all the symptoms are definitely there. I've still not been able to figure out triggers other than time of month and stress. They start like normal headaches but one thing is different... It's almost like.... A slight fog or something. It's a very vague feeling that sometimes lets me know I need to take some Tylenol and caffeine ASAP. If i don't catch it quick then i might as well stop everything. Light bothers me, sound, worst pounding headach, nausea, flashing light sometimes or other vision issues... So not fun. Some people say dairy and gluten set them off. I've tried keeping a food log and for me it isn't those triggers.

  • I have just started to get headaches that seem like migraines (make me dizzy, blurry vision, super light sensitive, last for hours, nausea) with this pregnancy. My midwife thinks they are probably hormonal but may be triggered by low blood sugar since I often wake up with them or get them quickly upon waking. Nothing really helps fully except time but caffeine, hydration and sometimes sugar does. I am trying to stay hydrated, eat plenty of protein and not let my blood sugar drop. FWIW, I am not diabetic but my midwife wants me to get a glucometer (I can get one from work) and check my blood sugar when I get these headaches. Have one now and of course, forgot to get the glucometer from work yesterday.

  • I think mine are hormonal as I used to get them during my menstral cycle every month before pregnancy.  I've only had one or two since pregnancy, but I think dehydration is a big trigger for me, and since being pregnant, I've pretty much haven't drank anything but water.  Also, stress is another.  Mine usually start at the base of my head on my left side and work it's way up the left side ending up right behind my left eye.  Usually, if I feel it on that left side at the base, I try taking a hot shower, a nap, or drink some caffiene.

  • My triggers are MSG and stress and a mystery of other things.

  • In the past, dehydration has been my biggest one. At my last appointment, my doctor told me if I develop a migraine which causes changes to my vision, I need to get in and have my blood pressure checked either with her or at the ER.
  • I have migraines now as well, never did before. My doctor says to drink a Mountain Dew. But I never was a caffeine crazy person, bad kidneys, so if they don't go away then he wants to send me to a specialists.
