IVF meds

Why is it that many of the IVF meds are not good for pregnancy?  I've been reading about the side effects/warnings of each one I've been using, and often come across things that say to not use them if you're pregnant, that they may cause birth defects, etc. 

This is including the meds I'm on since already having my transfer (Estradiol, Crinone).  Anyone have an explanation for this?

    I would guess they just put that warning on everything, because we live in such a litigious society. But I really don't know!

    Many drugs are classifed as safe, but the effects are unknown on an unborn baby. They reason why...what pregnant women would participate in a drug trial. Also, I've been told that when they conduct drug trails if one person reports a side effect the manufacturer is required to list it. Unfortunately, who knows what really contributed to the birth defect.

    This. I'm pretty sure my PIO and Vivelle both say in huge letters do not take during pregnancy... which is ironic really since I couldn't get or stay pregnant without them. It's just to cover their own behinds.

    Those explanations make sense.  It just seemed strange to me that I'm taking it to get pregnant/maintain a pregnancy, but that it says that.  I guess it's like taking BCP at the beginning of an IVF cycle.  Taking birth control to get pregnant.  So weird.

    I just wondered this the other day while looking at my Menopur ("don't use if pregnant or planning pregnancy").  um? 
    Me (37) DH (39); PCOS changed to Unexplained, changed to DOR in 2012 (finally a correct diagnosis!); 
    Started TTC 2009 with RE after 6 months.  
    Clomid + Trigger x2; 
    IUI + Femara x1,
    IUI + Follistim x2;
    IVF #1 (MDL) February 2013- BFN.
    IVF #2 (antagonist) May 2013, First BFP of my life. 
    Identical twin miracle BOYS (!!) headed our way- due date is technically 2/4/14 but c section is scheduled for 1/7!
