Hi Chicago Moms!
I am looking to open a home daycare in the Lincoln Park area- but before I do so I wanted to get a sense of the interest/need for it. My two girlfriends live in Chicago and said it's very hard to get into daycare centers right now, due to long wait lists.
I have a bachelors in Child Psychology & Development from the University of Wisconsin- Madison and an MBA from Roosevelt University in Chicago. Currently I hold a supervisor position at a brand marketing firm, but my passion and dream has always been to work with kids. I worked at a day care during the summers while in college and also spent two years doing speech therapy with two boys with Autism. I did end up going a different route with my career path, but I am now looking to get back to what I love-- kids!
Please let me know your thoughts! I?d love to hear from you.
Thank you!
Re: Daycare Opportunities
Hi Daisey, I think that it would be a great idea! I guess it would depend on if you are considering opening an actual day care facility, or if you're looking to do in home day care, costs, etc.
Personally, I've just started looking into potential childcare options, and was surprised by the limited options available for day care, and the costs associated with it. It might actually be more cost effective to do a nanny or nanny share.
Thanks JRoni- I appreciate the response! I am looking into opening a home daycare because I want to keep the ratio low- so no more than 4 kids. I am also looking into the licensing requirements for home daycare.
I know my friend pays 400 a week at a daycare facility in the city. I couldn't believe that since my sister pays 250 per week out in the burbs...but I guess that's city living!
Best of luck with your search for daycare. If I end up opening one, I'll let you know!
Please let me know if you end up opening one. We just started to look into daycare options in the city. It is all a little overwhelming.
Thanks!
