still have urine smell after washing??

I just washed my inserts and was hanging them to dry and noticed that when they are wet, they still have a urine smell. I have been using them for a few months now and this just started. What do i need to do? Strip? If I need to strip, how do i do it?

i make my own detergent because we had diaper rash issues... anything i can do without switching detergents?

Homemade detergent and soap nuts both failed for me long term - things just weren't clean. You can try using more (and for homemade, I'd at least double what you're using), but ultimately Tide Free and Clear powder is what's working for me. I don't buy that you need to use the scented Original.

Every once in a while I use more detergent and then do 1-2 extra hot washes (no detergent) afterward.

I use a good amount of detergent for regular washes though - not the full recommended amount, but 2/3-3/4 of that. (I'm sure it varies, I don't pay that much attention )
