Babies: 0 - 3 Months

What is it about night time...

that changes them? I'm at my wits end. She sleeps great during the day and only wakes to eat and go to sleep but night time is totally different. I know she has gas but every night? I'm exhausted, DH is exhausted and I don't know what to do to help calm her down (other then give gas drops).

Re: What is it about night time...

  • 2-3 weeks if very hard....  could be gas but it could also be the beginning of a colicky stage???

almost every baby has a "witching" hour where it is difficult.  try starting a routine to calm her - bath, massage, rocking, bottle, story, etc.

    good luck!

  • DD has started the witching hour (or should I say hourS) in the evening - she only started this at 3+ months. She's been STTN but is SUPER cranky once it's past 4 p.m. It's weird, she's naps throughout the day (albeit short ones, about 40 mins each time) but is still really cranky in the evenings. <sigh> Yes, DH and I know about being exhausted. I thought 3 months was when things were supposed to get better, not worse...
  • Time. She needs time. Time to get her internal clock set "right." Time to get used to being outside of the womb. Time for her tummy to grow so she can eat more.

    Swaddle her.

  • This is my first, so i'm no expert  . . .but i went through the same thing.  even 10 days later it seems to be getting somewhat better.  hand in there!
  • Hang in there!  Every week seems a bit different/better. Although not with out challenges!  I am always trying to "figure out" DD, like a science experiment.  Just my personality I guess. Sometimes when I am getting too analytical and I ask my DH why DD is doing what she does he says "she's a baby thats why!!!"  Then I sort of move on and the "phase" ends in a few days or a week.  The only thing that made nights easier for me was a solid routine.
