C-sections

Timing for planned c section due to placenta previa?

Hi Ladies!  I've been lurking on this board for awhile, but now it's starting to look more probable that I will be having a planned c section.

I have a marginal placenta previa, and the doctor is seeming much less optimistic that it will move. I know there's still time for the situation to correct, but I have some other complications that put me at higher risk for developing pre-eclampsia (positive for antibody M, and an unexplained high AFP level early in the pregnancy).

I'm currently on pelvic rest, because the doctor doesn't want me to do anything that could cause contractions. Has anyone else had this situation? If so, when did your Dr. end up performing your c section? We're just trying to figure out how panicked we should be about getting everything done before LO arrives!

Also, on an unrelated note, we live in a two story colonial with all the bedrooms upstairs. Should I expect to be sleeping on the couch after the c section, or will I be able to get upstairs to the bedroom?

Re: Timing for planned c section due to placenta previa?

  • As long as you aren't having any complications, I'm guessing they will schedule you for 39 weeks. And I had no problem getting up and down stairs after my first c section, although I was very slow for a few days.

  • I have complete placenta Previa that is getting checks again tomorrow. My dr is afraid of me going into labor on my own even tho I never did with DS. My csection will be planned between 37-39 weeks. Stairs were hard for me after my first csection. I couldn't sleep completely flat for 2 weeks either I had to be propped up some what. So I will sleep in our recliner after this one.
  • I have marginal too and my OB said his standard is 39 weeks but I had preterm birth with my second child so he scheduled me for 37w 1d.  We are just hoping I actually make it that far because BH have been increasing the last few days.

  • I had a complete previa and had a c-section at 36 weeks. LO was in the NICU for 12 days & we stayed at the Ronald McDonald house. I had to use the elevator for the first few days but after a week I was walking up the stairs. I know it's not recommended, but I was feeling fine and it didn't hurt me at all. My advice is to get up and walk as much as you can after your c-section. GL!

  • I had complete previa with my daughter. I was scheduled for 39w3d but she was actually born at exactly 36w due to pre-term labor. She was perfectly healthy and did not need any NICU time.
