I hear all of these other parents saying their LO's get to bed every night at a nice set time, usually between 7:30-8:30 or in that ball park. It sounds amazing and I need help.
How did you set a bed time for your LO? What would you suggest for us to get her to bed at a decent time so we can have our nights back? We used to put her in her crib and she just stayed there for the night, now she sits or stands right up and is mad until we get her back out and at some point it just works. Now that she is 9 months it has gotten ridiculous and we need our evenings back, help please!
Re: How to set a bed time?
Do you have a daytime routine? If so, that will help the night time routine. It depends on naps and everything else. We did not have a set bedtime until we had a set day time routine. What's your day schedule like?
I put DS to bed with a bottle. Sometimes he goes right to sleep, sometimes I lay him down, leave, he may fuss a bit, then go to sleep on his own, and sometimes after he's gotten very upset and it's clear he's not going to sleep, I go back and give him more of the bottle (I always leave some in there after I leave the 1st time) and that always does the trick.
Both of my kids go to bed pretty early, DS is 6:30, it could be later, but then I go to the gym, and DD is 7:30. When they were very little they'd start going for 4 or 5 hour stretches around that time. People would always tell me it's too bad you can't keep them up later so they sleep later or why not wake them when you go to bed to give them another bottle. I always found what works is to go with their routine, so if they were going to bed around 7, I don't mind doing another feeding at 12, because eventually they'll skip that, but if I keep them up at 10, that will become the new bed time.
I found that setting a bedtime routine really helped. Once we had the bedtime settled, her daytime routine fell into place because she was waking up at the same time every morning.
We do dinner at 6:30 sharp. Then it's straight into the bath, some quiet playtime, a bottle and bed. Generally she's in bed between 7:30 and 8pm.
Because she goes to sleep at the same time every night, with a full belly, she wakes up at about the same time every morning and we could get her daytime schedule settled. Some people find setting the daytime schedule first easier, it depends on the baby. Hope this helps!

By the time my kiddo was almost 2 months, we had already set a bedtime schedule and my boyfriend and I no longer found ourselves waking up every 2 hours. Vigil routine plus making the baby as comfy as possible [fed, clean diaper, snuggled, background music, swaddled] eventually resulted in beautiful 8 hr night sleeps!
this!
