August 2011 Moms

Jay goes back to school on Monday

This is going to be the roughest semester...  Senioritis has struck his wife!!

I'm so ready for his graduation ceremony in May.

Jay starts his final semester on Monday, and so this is our last weekend as a "normal" family.  What should we do?

Money's not really an issue (within reason -- we're not hopping a jet for a weekend getaway to Maui).  I'd like to do at least a good day trip that the boys will enjoy because Jay LOVES to watch the boys having a good time.

We've got just about everything within 3 hours' drive.  Ideas?

Maybe a family day during the day and a husband/wife night?

  • I can't remember where in CA you are, so forgive me if these make no sense.

Family time - Disney!! Or maybe you've done it a billion times already? Or any type of water park would be a big hit with the girls.

Couple's time - Winery. Especially since you're not KU :D I might do wine tasting on the Saturday followed by a nice romantic dinner, then do family day on Sunday.

Whatever you do, have fun - And big props to Jay for making it to the finish line. You must be one proud wife :D

  • I like your idea of having family time during the day and then a date night. It's a win win.
  • Yay for his last semester!!!  It's warm there, right?  Have you taken the boys to the zoo lately?  I'm dying for it to warm up so we can take DD to the zoo, she's so into animals!

I'm sure the boys will have fun with whatever you pick, but I would definitely try to squeeze in a date night if you can get a sitter.  Go to a fabulous restaurant, have a few cocktails and a delicious dinner (that you didn't have to cook!).  Then do something relaxing afterwards like take a walk or a nice drive, get ice cream or go play mini golf...something where you can talk and hang out and just enjoy being together.

I know when my DH is in school, (which started back up this past Tuesday - ew!) I am in charge of all of the meals, cooking and clean-up, since he's not around much.  And we do very, very few date nights during the semester because whenever he gets a little bit of free time, we want to spend it together with DD.  So a date night before the crazy starts would be a real treat, to us!

  • Yay for being done in May!! MH is done in June!! I am so ready!!

I like the idea Mama Ha had about Disney. Is that within 3 hours? That would be my first choice.

Second choice would be to go somewhere close during the day as a family, zoo maybe? And go to a BandB somewhere fun just you and Jay for the night.

  • It will go by in a flash :)

What about whale watching or a outing to the beach? Have you been to the Santa Monica pier?

Then a dinner night for the two of you and dessert to go hint hint ;-)
