T has said 'oh shiit' a few times, but it seemed to be a passing thing. Now he has picked up the word 'crap.' As in 'mommy there's crap on my chair' (talking about crumbs). I tried to tell him today that it's a word for big people, not kids - he of course looked at me like I was crazy. So when I said something to H about it, he says 'since when did crap become a bad word?' Really? I think it's totally inappropriate for a 2yo to use the word crap in his every day vocabulary. H thinks I'm overreacting am I? Would you let your LO use crap as a regular word? Or do you consider it a bad word for a kid? Please be honest, I need to know if I'm being 'that' crazy person about this.
Edited for punctuation... Stupid mobile!
Re: LO & bad words
I put crap in the "bad word" category and wouldn't be happy if my kid was saying it. That said, I know we say it around him sometimes. We should probably stop that right now. We try really hard, but sometimes it slips out. Kids at school in my classes don't think crap is a bad word either and don't always understand why they have to move their clip or sit in time out for saying it. I don't tolerate it in my classroom though.
Dh told me growing up that "sucks" was a bad word as in "this sucks." what do you guys think?
That being said I do curse at home and hazel has repeated "oh crap" a few times. I don't really worry about it at this point though because she's only ever said it right after FI or I say it.
I was told the same thing growing up. I try not to say it around DS along with crap because I just don't want my 2 yr old saying it. The last time I said "oh crap!" DS walked around the house singing it over and over. We don't curse or say "fart" so those words he automatically doesn't hear but crap, shoot, and sucks, we try to not say around him
I don't want DD say crap, sucks, or butt. Although I know I have used all in front of her multiple times.
Bad momma!
DD drop something today and said "Oh dear!" I was pretty happy about that. I don't think she got it from me though.
