HELP...Am I going to die?

My DH had to work late tonight and I had to give myself my own PIO. When I injected, I withdrew a bit to check for blood and I didn't see any so I proceeded w/ the injection.
When I withdrew the needle I gushed blood!! At first I thought it was because of my position but it was quite a bit that came out. Anyway, when I pulled out the needle I saw there was a bit of blood in the needle.
Am I going to be OK? Why do they tell you to be sure there's no blood? I'm so scared. I can't get a hold of DH and I'm panicking.

Do you think the blood might have something to do with the angle? ?Maybe since you were doing it yourself you weren't able to go straight in and straight out? ?
I would think that if you were to have hit a vessel that there would definitely be blood in the syringe that you could really, really see. ?
Hang in there! ?Maybe call the nurse's line at your office????
I hear girls talk about that all the time on here, it seems to be common. You will be ok, but you might have a nasty bruise. I know how scary that can be, Good for you, giving your own injection! I did Follistim and the SubQ HCG, but not PIO.
I am emailing my friend that is a Nurse Practioner. I'll let you know what I find out. I am sure a bunch of girls will be piping in.

I just called the pharmacist and they couldn't help. As the pp suggested I called the nurse line but I had to leave a message.
I keep telling myself that if you could make a fatal mistake the Dr would NO WAY let us do these shots ourselves, right?
After 2 rounds of IVF & 2 rounds of FET, we were blessed with identical twin girls!
I'm totally cracking up right now.
I felt like each message was a cliffhanger! ha ha
I've been pushing on it and it's stopped bleeding.
I just want to be sure it's OK if I got into my blood stream instead of my fat area.
It looks like I was posting after every word. I must be on drugs.
Anyway, it looks on the internet that you hit a vein. Did you feel like you hit muscle? It would appear that nothing bad will happen, but that the medicine may not have gotten to the muscle to be absorbed. Keep in mind that veins are tiny and they are all over.

Thanx Deb for the link! I feel much better! I swear I WILL NEVER DO MY OWN PIO AGAIN! I don't care if I'm late with the injection. This is too nerve wracking!

I'm sure everything is ok now, but I just wanted to let you know that I have gushers every once in awhile too. You likely just nicked a vein. And you are SO brave to do the PIO yourself! I still don't have the guts to do that.
