eye exams

I went for a routine eye exam yesterday, and of course Julian came up in conversation. You know, because I kinda like to talk about him Stick out tongue Anyway, I had no idea that they do exams on children this young, but the doctor told me they can actually look at a lot of things and it's a good idea to have them checked out before age one. I know he wasn't just blowing smoke to get more money either, because he offered to see Julian for free (my husband and I both use this doctor). When I scheduled the appt, the receptionist told me that our doctor is actually a specialist in infant optometry. Who even knew there was such a specialty?

I just wanted to pass on this info since I definitely would never have known to take him in this early!

Re: eye exams

  • Starbuck, I didn't take him with me. My husband gets off work at 3:30 and works nearby, so I was able to go after he got home. I have been putting it off FOREVER too. I have been in the same pair of contacts for... too many months now, and they wouldn't order me any more until I went in. See my post on FB about being a procrastinator... sigh...

  • Good to know.  I will be sure to ask my optometrist about it when I go next time.  Which should be soon, since my yearly exam was supposed to be in October...  Add me to the procastinator list.

I didn't know about this. Thanks! May I ask what you did with your little guy during the exam? Stroller? I am so overdue for my exam, but I don't have anyone to babysit right now.

Not eye exam related, but once I had a doctor's appointment and took Adam in the stroller because I had no one to watch him.
    My advice, toyssnacks.....

  • I knew about taking LO to the dentist, but not the eye doctor. I don't know how in the world they'd be able to look in Ian's eyes for anything! Lol.

Starbuck, I was wondering the same thing. I'm going next month and was thinking what am I going to do? I don't want to have to leave Ian just so I can go, but don't want to have to take him necessarily either. What I've done with other dr appointments is just taken the stroller. He's been really good about sitting while I've been "busy". I usually take some of his favorite snacks and put in the tray of his stroller and it usually buys me enough time. I'm hoping this works for an eye exam too!

  • Lauren just had her first eye appointment! She did really well other than when they put the drops in to dilate her eyes.

We go back in May. She will probably get glasses then and I'm a teeny bit excited, lol!

  • I posted this a while ago but there is a program called Infant See that does free exams for kids between 6 months and 12 months (so it's getting close!).

We took Allison in January and it was easy peasy.
