Question: What changes have you been able to have implemented at school and found to help? I know that APD differs greatly for each child so not everything will be beneficial for everyone.
Background:
We met with DS1's audiologist today and he told us that he is comfortable giving DS1 an APD diagnosis now. He said that we'll be receiving the report in about a week with the actual breakdown of the testing and the recommendations regarding his therapies and mentioned making academic adjustments which I didn't think to ask him to explain. DS1 has been in Speech Therapy since age 3 and will be starting Occupational Therapy soon on the recommendation of his Speech therapist.
At the moment, he has SPD and APD dxs as well as fluency and articulation for speech.
Re: APD Question
It had been recommended again last year to have his hearing tested because it seemed as though he was having trouble hearing the teacher and would always play off of the other kid's clues. However, they only tested the hearing then and said that they would look into the processing aspect of it if it continued to be an issue since they normally wait until age 7.
We do not have cable or a tv in the main living area so the only time that he watches one would be at someone else's home, which would be rare. Our only tv is in the sitting room of our master bedroom and is used with a DVD player for DH to workout. He does use a computer at school but I don't think that it is for a significant amount of time since he is in half day kindergarten. I believe that they change seating in their classroom every few weeks so it shouldn't be that big of a difference if the do end up needing to place him in a certain area. Books on tape is a great idea. I'll have to start listening to them with him.
Thanks again!
