Banister Guards--babyproofing

We just moved to a new place with wrought iron banisters that surround the 2nd floor landing.  I want to install plexiglass so my little guy can't get caught or climb the railings.  Any suggestions for a product that has worked for you?  How did you install?  I have seen clear plexiglass in a roll or the sheets that you'd buy at home depot.  Seems the easiest way to install would be plastic ties.  Just curious how others have handled this situation and any tips you might have.  Thanks!

Re: Banister Guards--babyproofing

  • I researched this ad nauseum and I wound up just going with nothing. Now that my son is moving, he's never unattended long enough to be near the railing and even when he is near it, he's too big to slip through or get anything stuck. He likes to use the bars to walk around the room.  He's really tall so I almost worry that he might use anything that I put over it to help him climb, rather than hinder it.

  • We have zip ties but not plexiglass, a thinner more flexiable plastic sheet.
Then the zip ties go through holes punched in the plastic.
We only have it on one railing, because the spacing of the bottom most one is not up to code and large enough for a baby head to get stuck older home. I wouldn't bother on the rest of the railings that are up to code, they are too narrow to fit through and since they are only verticals there isn't anything to climb up
  • zip ties would seem like the best way to me.
