We aren't doing any early screening. However, if anything appears abnormal in the anatomy scan, we would probably pursue further testing to be prepared.
Mommy to N (3), J (2), and C (10 months). LO4 is due in mid-September.
i took the test with some of my older kids but then got a false positive and found out that happens alot so we dont test anymore we got alot of pressure to abort him and he didnt even have it (not that we would have anyway) ...Just be aware they arent 100%
I'm planning to do the NT scan and early blood work at 12 weeks, but am not going to do an amnio unless my doctor thinks there's a good reason or the 12 week testing shows high probability of Down's.
I guess if it's something we're going to have to deal with, I'd like to know as soon as possible so we can start looking at the best hospital for delivery and interviewing the different doctors we'd need to work with once LO got here.
Okay awesome. I was wondering if it was a common thing to do. I have my appointment on 2/28/13.
Could someone explain what it was like to have it done?
at 12 weeks you get blood work and an ultrasound and more blood work at 15 weeks.
My OB does not give out ultrasound pictures at this bc they don't like people signing up for it just to see the baby bc that is not what it is meant for.
Did you get to see the screen and did they show you what they were looking for if you did get to?
10 weeks 3 days. "I'm all jacked up on Mountain Dew!"
careful witht he testing most insurances dont cover it i got stuck with a $3500 bill even though it was said to be routine bloodwork with my first child.

I will be doing the NT scan and bloodwork. We will have the baby no matter what but I want to have a heads up if there is a heightened probability of something. We will not be doing an amnio or anything invasive though.

My doctor also said that insurance would not cover 1st tri screening for us. She said if I were over 35 or had had another pregnancy with positive results that would have it done but since this is my first pregnancy and we are younger than 35, I don't think insurance will cover it.

I will have a test done for it. I am 25, but of course there is always that chance. Have you seen this blog about a mother raising a daughter with Downs?

Depends on where you get it done. My OB does not do the NT or anatomy scan in house so we go to the Maternal Fetal Medicine specialists in our hospital. All u/s images are shown on flat screen TVs angles specifically for patient viewing. Sometimes you get a tech that explains things as they go, other times they are quiet. Ask questions if you are curious about anything, unless you know what is what, u/s can get confusing. I did get pictures printed out from mine, a lot actually.
2 years, 2 surgeries, 2 clomid fails, 2 IUIs, 1 loss, IVF #1 - 10/25/10 = BFP!, DS is now 3.5yrs!
TTC #2 - 6/12 surgery #3, FET #1 & 1.2 = BFN, 12/2012 FET #2 = BFP! DD is 1.5 yrs!
Surprise! 12/16/14 BFP, loss #2 12/31/14
I can't wait for the "im getting a divorce" post in 5 years or so because your husbands were fed up with your disgusting chair asses from playing on the knot all day and getting fired 4-5 times for not doing any work. you guys are all winners!! ~ Laur929
I will be doing the NT scan and associated bloodwork. It's usually between 12 & 13 weeks, if I remember correctly. I did it last time as well.
This exactly.
Same here! It's an extra ultrasound and in addition we get an idea if there's any risk. We probably won't do more, because it doesn't change anything for us. But at least if there is a risk we will know.
When I had my sons, I had an NT scan...my Dr.said there is a new blood test called Trisonomy21 which I will have done at 10 weeks ( they just take a sample of my blood...which I guess had some fetUS cells during this time) and it will screen for several genetic disorders including downs syndrome and they will also I'D gender...he said it is $235 if not covered by insurance.

It is called Maternity21 and in general it is only offered to high risk patients or women over 35.

I do not think so b/c i'm paranoid enough and a few of my friends did it and always had false positive results! It was awful that they had to worry about it for 9 long months when nothing was wrong at all! They had healthy babies and have NOT recommended it b/c it's only a % chance that there is anything wrong! But that is just my thoughts, you should do whatever makes you feel better.
My hubby and I will be getting the US around 1113 weeks for Downs I am almost 39 and he is almost 41 our birthdays are next month. My hubby's sister has a Downs Syndrome boy who is in his 20s now so since it is in the family we want to check. Even if it turns out positive for Downs we will still have the baby. I have worked with many Downs kids and my friends sister was downs she lived til her 50s. I will do bloodwork and will go to genetic counseling but not sure if we would do amnio unless we had too.

Re: Anyone else Testing for...
I think I'm having testing done in 2nd tri (around 16 weeks) and maybe it includes that? But no testing in 1st tri.
