Confession about last night

Last night, the clock struck 3:15a before I finally fell asleep. I laid in bed all night, wide awake and all I wanted to do was smack my husband. Not in the face, he's too pretty for that. But maybe in the chest or leg...somewhere that physical abuse wouldn't be detected by co-workers. And I didn't want to smack him because he did something to me (well not intentionally) but because all week I've been wide awake into the wee hours of the morning and he just sleeps so blissfully. Thankfully for him and for me, I kept my hands to myself and let him sleep like a baby.

I have not been sleeping well all week. On Wednesday at my 30 week appt, my doctor told me it was because I have squirrel brain. "Squirrel brain"? No sir, I don't think I have squirrel brain. I'm pretty sure I have a little boy who tries to burrow out of my uterus like a squirrel from 11p-1a every night, and I also have sciatica. Oh not to mention I average about 56.5 trips to the bathroom a night, due to pressure on my ever filling bladder. And yes, I did average half a trip one night. While half asleep I started to piss my pants on the way to the bathroom. I'm not even embarrassed by that little fact because I'm sure it won't be the last time I piss myself in the next 10 weeks.

So now that I've gotten all of that off of my chest, I'm feeling much better. But not any less tired. Anyone else feeling this way? And if so, is there anything you're doing to help sleep? I can't take Benadryl and Unisom hasn't done a thing for me.

Yup. Or WITH your husband. I have woken him up for sexytime to help me fall asleep many times.

  • I'm feeling this way tonight. It's 4 in the morning here and I can't sleep. LO is wiggling, DH is fast asleep, and I'm just laying here.

    Hahahahah.

Yeah, with OR without is fine, but sometimes when I can't sleep, I'd rather just knock one out quick and get on with it.  (Do I sound like a dude?)

  • I went through this last night too!  I admit I tossed & turned & pulled on the sheets a little exaggerated, and considered an "accidental" elbow to the ribs, in small hopes of him waking up a little to acknowledge my discomfort.  Nope - he slept sound as a rock.

  • I go through this every night also.  I went through this with DS.  I sleep in a different room than DH.  Between the bathroom breaks, nightmares, insomnia, sciaticia pain, sick DS, dog who can't get comfortable...it's a long restless night.

I was given the OK to take a Gravol to help fall asleep, I took a half of one and it definately helped me sleep for 4hrs at least!

I also watch what I eat before bed.  For me, sugars give me worse nightmares, water helps the restless legs and back, but not the bladder.  A pillow between my legs helps my sciaticia...

    You're not alone ;)

  • Lol I completely understand!  I get so mad at my husband and want to punch him to wake him up so he can hang out with me! Lol I toss and turn and make as much noise as possible... but nope he sleeps like pro!  Some nights playing games on my cell phone helps, other nights nothing makes me happy because he is still sleeping!!

I too wake up at least every hour and a half to use the bathroom at night.  Lol I have three dogs and one of them normally joins me which makes me feel happy, but even they have stopped getting up with me at night :(

  • I am thoroughly entertained by this post.  Just your writing in general.  Please post more.

As far as sleeping, my doc recommended chamomile tea, a light snack with protein/carb mixture (like a cheese/cracker) before bed and taking my prenatals in the am instead of pm will help.  It hasn't been bad, definitely better than it was.  A body pillow between the knees should help with the sciatica.  I have that issue as well.

    Peeing your pants= completely normal.

Orgasms make my heart race, personally.

Good luck, and I'm proud of you for keeping your hands to yourself.

I am laughing so hard at this whole thread! Thank you!!!

Insomnia really is annoying, though. For me, it was worse after DS was born. I wouldn't be able to fall back asleep so for a couple months I was pretty cracked out. This too shall pass..

The bolded part was kind of creepy.

The word you're looking for is SEX.  I promise.  No, it's not gender.  It's sex.  You're welcome.

I am glad that I am not the only one that orgasms don't make me sleepy.  It is a joke between MH and I that after sex I am wide awake and all he wants to do is cuddle and sleep.

OP - Hope you find something that helps you sleep better. I can usually fall asleep, but not a deep refreshing sleep, so I am no real help. Sorry.

  • I totally understand that feeling! I've pretty much always had trouble sleeping. It's so frustrating when the person next to you is fast asleep. My husband is a total cranky pants when he's tired though, so I generally let him sleep.
Lately I haven't had trouble falling asleep, but I wake up constantly and often can't get back to sleep for hours. For me doing yoga or tai chi after work seems to make me sleep better. Or if I can't sleep because I'm thinking too much, usually obsessively about something very insignificant, it sometimes helps to write things down or distract myself with reading.
