I wonder which would be better

Mobile Bumpers; I wonder which would be better

I realize I have no control over this, but I like to think ahead, so please indulge me. Or not, as I know this is going to get long.

DH gets 5 weeks of paternity, which he has to use as he pleases before the baby turns one. He doesn't have to use them all at once.

In the past, what we've done is that he'd combine some paternity leave with some vacation when the baby would come so that he'd stay home with us for the first month or so.

Now, this baby is due Arpil 23-27 (depending on the u/s), but since DD2 was 3 weeks early, I figure it could come as early as April 2nd. Or it could be late, just to mess with me.

If everything goes well with selling the condo, we'd be moving into our new home May 18 and have 2 weeks to settle in before handing over the keys to the condo to the buyers.

If baby comes on his due date (ish) or later, DH can just take a month off, like usual, and that will get us through the 2 weeks of us moving.

However, if baby comes early, we'll have to do one of 2 things.

Option 1 - Use up to his 5 weeks of paternity, plus some vacation time. Worst case scenario here would be a total of 8 weeks off (if baby comes on Arpil 2nd), leaving DH with no vacation time left for this year.

Option 2 - Use only 2 weeks of paternity leave when baby comes, go back to work for a few weeks, then take paternity/vacation time to move.

Anyone wants to share their thoughts on this? Which would you choose? Why?

I'm trying to figure this out now because well, dealing with a newborn is overwhelming enough as it is, so if that's one less thing I have to worry about, I'll take it.

Option 2:  Take the 2 weeks and then more time later to move.  You'll need the 2 weeks to balance and learn to survive.  Going from 2-3 kids will undoubtedly be an adjustment when you come home from the hospital.  Jay and I have already planned that he's on Otis and I'll have the NB and Hank.  I figure based on needs this about balances things out in terms of parental responsibility.  I think that 2 weeks with us would be enough for us to establish a routine just to get us through the next few weeks while DH had to work.  Also, do you have any family that would come and visit?  You could time their visits within the weeks that DH is back at work.  My family is actually really, really helpful when they visit me post-partum.  I know this isn't always the case.

Good luck, girl!!  I can't wait until BoyHa makes his appearance!!

  • I would choose option 2, that way DH still has his vacation for vacation, or incase someone gets sick or something and you need some extra hands.

Also, I am soooo jelous right now that your DH has that much time to be with you and takes it. DS was born on Monday by induction. DH went to work Tuesdays and 3/4 of Wednesday while I was waiting for him to get us to be discharged, and then again Friday and all the next week.  But now he feels more like a dad so maybe the next one will be different

I do realize just how lucky I am. The system up here may be flawed, but it definitely has its advantages.

JnK, I could probably get my mother to come and help for a bit - Just not sure how much we can take of each other. lol
