We spent all day from 6:00 in the morning until 6:00 in the evening at doctor's offices. We saw the first specialist, and they did another u/s. She said the same things that we already knew, there is a spot on the heart, echogenic bowels, baby 2 weeks behind, and very low fluid. We spoke with the genetic counselor, although I am not sure why, she had no good or new news. I really liked her, and am glad that I can get ahold of her quickly when needed, but she really didn't say anything new. They DID say that my fluid is so low that she didn't feel comfortable doing an amnio.
Then we went to the Med Center downtown, we live in Houston, and our appt kept getting moved back b/c the doc was in a fetal surgery. We had another quick ultrasound and I begged to get checked for water leaking (maybe I had missed it before?), and they did an exam to find that I am not leaking fluid. We spoke with that office's genetic counselor and again, that just made me more upset with no new information.
I wanted someone to give me something. Anything. Statistics. Their opinion. Really, just anything.
The doc came back, did another u/s to see if he felt comfortable doing the amnio. If not, we would do a placenta biopsy. He did the amnio, and I nearly had a panic attack or heart attack on the table. It really did hurt, and while I'm sure that my clenched tummy muscles, and hyperventilating did nothing to help the matter, it still really hurt. It took longer because there was so little fluid it was hard for him to get where he needed to be.
The fluid came out brownish/yellowish. The very first anatomy scan tech said that the fluid did not look clear, and she was right. He said that this is mostly likely from my old blood from when I bled at 11 weeks, and that the echogenic bowels are most likely explained by this as well, the blood got swallowed and was in her belly, and was showing up.
The main concern is WHY is my fluid low, and WHY is she small.
Unfort, the amnio tests range from 1-2 days (if my ins will pay for FISH), and then a 7-10 day wait, and also a 10-14 business day wait. That is like..... 3 weeks. I will go back to first specialist on Friday to see what things look like in there, and then back to my OB Thursday. This is a very sucky waiting game.
