Husbands and their iphones. Grrrr!

My DH and I have been married for ten years, we've got most of the kinks worked out, fortunately, and don't argue often. But for the past 3-4 months, we've had numerous arguments about his addiction (he would say I'm exaggerating, of course) to his iphone.

He comes home from a long day at work, has about 2 hours to be with DS and me, and spends half of it on the darn phone, playing games, texting friends, checking FB. Even while he's feeding and playing with LO, he's often messing with the phone.

Needless to say, I hate his iphone. I dream of stepping on it with my high heels---no joke. She is like a dirty mistress, literally, dirty, because he freakin brings it to the bathroom with him!

Any advice on convincing DH to put the phone away for the few hours we have together each day?

TIA

  • No advice. I hate smartphones. So many people I know became addicted to them once they got them. We don't have them and that's one of the reasons.

  • DH is always on his iPhone. I have one too, and half the time I can't find it. If he didn't spend so much money on it I would probably through it out the window while we are driving somewhere.

  • What is it with the hubbies and their phones?! Mine is the same way. I just keep nagging him. I wish I had better advice! I have managed to get him to put it down at dinner at least. I explained why it bothered me and that I wanted to have some quality family time. Sometimes I have to remind him still. I have definitely wanted to throw it out the window at times!
  • You are not alone. I had to take and hide so dd could have his full attention. Sad

  • Glad I'm not alone on this!

Sometimes I quote Thoreau to him: "...I wished to live deliberately..., and not, when I came to die, discover that I have not lived."  He just rolls his eyes.

I just hope our son loves to play in the dirt and stare at bugs, and does not get overly consumed by petty technological gadgets.

Haha, I don't think that quote would go over well with my DH either. I worry about DS getting hooked on colorful electronic devices, too. DH loves to play video games and computer games and watch TV, and at least right now says he doesn't see the problem with DS doing the same when he gets older. I think I am going to have to try to impose some serious limits on "bright box time" per day.
