We have a thread going on on FB about the plant we're getting for my friend who lost her mother.
Someone made a comment to the effect that she is broke and can't chip in more than $10 - $12. I can completely understand being broke and I totally respect that. Problem is, that person happens to be our resident party girl. Girl goes out every night she doesn't have her DD and smokes like a chimney. I just want to scream at her "OUR FRIEND JUST LOST HER FREAKING MOTHER - THE LEAST YOU COULD DO IS CUT DOWN ON BEER AND CIGARETTES FOR A FEW DAYS - IS THAT TOO MUCH TO ASK?". But I won't, of course.
Re: Can I be a B?
I'd be bothered too. In fact, I have all kinds of friends whose incomes are SO LOW that they rely on food stamps & WIC, live rent free with their own parents, are always too broke to enjoy a nice dinner out with me god forbid they not flake out for once, yet always have money for some crappy club & the $60 worth of sh!tty well liquor they'll drink while they're there, the cigarettes they chain smoke all day, and the next phase of their awesome sleeve tattoo.
I notice this in office pools too; I'm one of our lowest paid and I always donate more than my share just because of how cheap everyone else is. Recently one of our building janitors passed away after spending several weeks in the hospital (they couldn't figure out what was wrong with her) and it was especially tragic since she (at 42 yrs old) was the primary breadwinner for 4 kids and one grandkid. My agency (8 people total) pooled some money but wouldn't you know the largest office in the building came up with a big fat zero.
I'll be one as well, MHa.
I just read a post from a friend of mine on FB about the Columbine tragedy. Supposedly (I say supposedly bc I haven't looked into the factuality of his words), a father of one of the victims addressed national leaders and pleaded that they allow God back into the lives of Americans. This address would have you believe that an absence of God means the existence of Evil. That if God's not in your heart you are an evil being, capable of horrific deeds and will succumb to this kind of force.
I am absolutely atheist. DH is as well. We plan to raise our kids in kindness, love, respect and personal accountability, but in the absence of God. I believe that these cover the pillars of our family philosophy. We don't need God (no offense to those who are religious).
This logic is so flawed, and it's so disgusting I can't even think straight. All I could do was to ignore the post. I honestly had no idea she thought like this. I honestly had no idea that she was so religious until I became FB friends with her. I kind of turned off by her now.
I love how people who smoke and drink don't ever consider, even for a second, that they might be broke because of their bad habits. And they don't consider, even for a second, cutting back for a week or two to save up a little cash.
And by "love" I mean "hate." Idiots.
// I love you too. //
That's what really infuriates me. Most of my friends are all "let's give her a break, she's a struggling single mom". Ummm sorry but no. She IS a single mom, she doesn't have a lot of money, but that doesn't mean she just gets a free pass when it comes to choices such as smoking and drinking.
