Help!

Here goes ladies....

I posted yesterday about needing to have a root canal done so close to ET (next Thursday).  Today I realized my root canal coverage does not kick in until 2/13...which is after my scheduled beta.  Insurance will take care of 50% of the cost if I wait until that date....if not I'm out of pocket 100%.  So now I'm stuck between waiting to get the tooth fixed  or going ahead with it now. Any advice??

Re: Help!

  • How much pain are you in??  Can you call your RE or tell your dentist your circumstances and see what they say?  I'd hate for you to have to spend additional $$$$ if its unnecessary.

  • My dad is an Endodontist (gives root canals all day), so I will ask him his opinion and see what he says. I will get back to you as soon as I get in touch with him.

  • I think the issue with getting dental work done during 1st tri is the x-rays. Why don't you see if you can get the x-rays done now, and wait on the root canal until 2/13?

  • Can you not have a root canal pregnant?

  • I just talked to my dad, and he said if you are in a ton of pain, he recommends you have it taken care of. He said the safest time is 2nd tri, only because it is the least stressful time during a pregnancy, but he treats women throughout every stage of pregnancy, and it is completely safe. You know yourself and your stress level the best. There is no harm with xrays, as long as they use lead aprons, so make sure of that. Also, he said there is so little epinephrine in the anesthesia, that majority of dr.'s feel it is a non issue but some make it an issue, so ask your dr. about that. Last, he said stick with Tylenol only for pain. I hope that helps, and and good luck with your decision!

Thank your dad for me and thank you for asking him!! After discussing it with my DH, I have decided to go ahead with the procedure today.  My pain really isn't that bad and some days are worse than others but we don't want to take the chance of it becoming worse during the first trimester.....if that happens.  Thanks again!
