At 20-week anatomy scan found IUGR (Intrauterine Growth Restriction), and very low Amniotic Fluid.  Now, I'm High Risk and have weekly ultrasounds to monitor fluid and growth.  If baby runs out of room or is too growth restricted, they will deliver ASAP.  My current goal is to make it to 28 weeks!

Re: Anyone wait longer than 6 months to start solids?

  • We waited until 6 months to feed our little guy.  When we did start it was a slow process which was fine. BM and formula should still be their primary source of nutrition.  We did about 1 feeding for a month and a half before we started sending food to daycare.  He wasn't really interested in solids and it took that long to get him to accept them.  He wasn't crazy about it so I am glad I didn't try earlier.  Now he is almost 11 months and is doing great with eating.

  • I tried feeding DD solids when she was 6 months old, but she wasn't very interested.  We started with oatmeal and I offered sweet potatoes, avocado, applesauce and yogurt, and she took a bite or 2 before turning her head away.  I kept trying to offer new things and finally when she was about 10 months she got really into solids.  Now she eats 3 meals a day and pretty much eats anything I give her.  You'll be able to tell when she's interested in more and she'll have favorites.  Keep introducing things slowly and all of the sudden she'll be eating lots!

  • Does 6 months and 1 week count?! It can seem overwhelming, but when you take into account how very little they actually eat other than BM, it really isn't that big a deal.  It's taken 6 months for DS to eat more than 4 oz of solids at any one time.  Follow your LO's lead and take it slow if that's how they want to take it.  Good luck!

  • I started at 6 months with both my LOs.  However, one of my friends waited beyond 6 months to start solids with her LO.  She also delayed table foods because she was afraid of the choking issue.  The baby is now a toddler (almost 3 yrs old) and is tiny (below 1% in height and weight).  He also hates most table foods.  He is so picky.  He still eats the snacks/food I gave my LO #1 when she was under 1.  It is not a good situation.  The pedi told her to add butter to everything.

I still remember thinking she was delaying starting solids too much, and she would regret that decision.  I don't recall how long she delayed.
