FET lining questions

Hi ladies! I am doing a medicated FET and am on Lupron and Estrace.  I have only one and only ultrasound appointment prior to our actual ET. I'm hoping you guys might know what to expect.

If my lining is too thin at that ultrasound, what do they normally do? Delay the ET and leave you on Estrace longer? Or cancel?

And if it's too thick, do they usually cancel and make you start over? It seems weird that there aren't in-between appointments to see how things are progressing, but it's all new to me.

Anything else that might throw a wrench into the game that I'm not thinking of?

Last two questions for extra points. What usually causes a lining to get too thick? Does being natural vs medicated matter for this?

Re: FET lining questions

  • I have no answers because I'm having the same anxiety BUT I emailed my IVF nurse after I had the same 'is there such a thing as too thick' panic attack because I'm already at a 13 with many days to go and she said "We worry sometimes during a stimulation cycle if it gets thick and it has been a long stimulation, but with a FET, that is great!"

  • My RE will not let me "prep" (estrogen) for more than 20 days. So if Im not where I need to be by then we cancell and start over. I have a baseline u/s, another exactly one week from then, and another 6 days before ET to check it again. 6 days because I start PIO at 5 days prior to ET.

When I have been to thin before he added vaginal estrace 3x day. That cycle it was to late and my lining didnt thicken and I ended up with fluid. Cancelled. This time we are using vaginal viagra/estrace compound that seems to be helping. I have never had it be to thick so I got nothing on that one.

I would assume to much estrogen would amke it to thick since thats what thickens it to begin with. I havent ever done a natural cycle so again I got nothing.

I hope this helps. Im still new to the FET game so I hope these answers are correct.

  • At my lining check, I know my RE will just bump ET a week and have you come back in the following week to check it again. If it's not thick enough by then, I believe, in my office, you would be cancelled. I'm not really sure what happens at my office if the lining is too thick. I never asked, but I would assume they would cancel you.

This is how my office appointments for FET's go:

Baseline - check to make sure you are suppressed usually  about 1 1/2 weeks after starting Lupron. At this check in you get a new calendar with start dates for Estrace.

2 weeks after that baseline, you go in for the lining check. Here they want to make sure the lining is thick enough for ET. Here you get instructions on when to start PIO and when the actual transfer will be. (My office gives you 2-3 different dates an ET can happen at the start of the cycle).

1 week after the lining check is the ET.

exactly 2 weeks after ET, (Yes, my office is crazy and makes you wait 2 WHOLE weeks AFTER ET, that's 14 days.) you have your beta.

So for me, so far I've been delayed a week due to the cyst. So I went in for my initial baseline on the 17th, found cyst, Now I go back in for baseline #2 tomorrow morning. My original ET of 2/6 was pushed back to 2/14. And the same thing would happen if the lining wasn't thick enough. So I have the potential to be pushed back by 2 weeks if my lining isn't thick enough around 2/7.

Um, I hope that all makes sense, and it may have been more infor than needed, sorry.

  • my office only has one monitoring appt. for FET cycles. Mine was yesterday. They check about 10 days before FET and my RE looks for e2 levels and three line appearance more than thickness.

my lining yesterday was 6.1  with three lines and estrogen in the mid-200's. My RE likes to see it over 100.

i got my first bfp with a lining of 5.6 the day before ER, so i try not to worry about it. i am glad it was above six this FET cycle at monitoring (last month it was 5.3) with the addition of viagra.

    hope this helps!

  • My FET is scheduled for 2/8. They put me on BCPs and I didn't get a period, so I'm behind schedule. I have to have two u/s to make sure I'm on enough estrogen. If my lining isn't an 8 by 2/3, the FET is delayed. If it's not layered correctly or too thick it's canceled.
