Exersaucer

Do any of you have an exersaucer? I've read mixed opinions. I forgot to ask the pedi when we were there earlier this week.

Re: Exersaucer

  • We have one, DD used to love it but she gets bored with it pretty quickly now (she's 8 months). It's great when i need a few minutes to fix myself something to eat or do a chore.

  • Also, when i take i shower i just stick it in the bathroom with me and DD plays while i shower. I leave the bathroom door open so she doesnt get hot, but she usually is content to play in her exersaucer while i shower. Its a lifesaver in that regard! : )
  • We have one and were told to wait until our LO is able to sit up on their own....roughly 5-6 months.

Our main goal is to keep him occupied while we try to scarf down dinner together or while we are cleaning for guests....nothing major and we don't plan on keeping him in it for long periods of time.

We had one and used it like this. But we recently gave it away because we wanted to encourage mobility. It was useful but it took up so much space!

  • I love our exersaucer, Ronan will sit in it and jump up and down like crazy. It is very useful if needing some time to do something

  • We have one. I only use it when I work out. My LO doesn't like to be contained so I typically get 15-20 minutes max, 30 if I sing a lot . . . badly and out of breath of course.  I've heard so many negative things about them but we have both this and a jumperoo and honestly I've seen my son learn to manipulate the toys in them, figure out how things work and how to make noises happen.  The jumperoo was the place where he first learned to reach for toys and play with them. He learned how to turn the pages of a book in the exersaucer.  He's perhaps a bit too active and physical so these tend to slow  him down and he seems more thoughtful and careful with his small monitor skilll in them.  That said use them only a few times a week for 10-20 minutes at a time and we are usually nearby interacting with him.  I imagine the negative comments pertain to there overuse but it doesn't sound like any here is using them for more than a little while to get something done.  Also I am sure they are loaded with BPA, PVC, phthalates etc, lovely when he puts his face to the edge and sucks away. . .

  • My dd loved hers, would play bounce happily for a while. My ds is only content for a few minutes then he wants out. He does best with it outside since he is also entertained watching his sister run all over the yard.
  • We have one! It is my daughter's favorite toy. She loves to play with all of the various toys attached to it. It is a lifesaver when I need to get something done really fast. I just got mine at a yardsale for a couple of dollars. I love a good deal!

  • Agree with PP's DD loved hers but she rarely uses it anymore. It's a 3 stage evenflo useable from 4mns to 24mns. I believe evenflo complies with BPA regulations in their plastic, not 100percent.

It's mostly used outside now when I'm watering or playing with the dog. As I try to keep it's use infrequent. But when she was learning to crawl and hold her head it really helped with her motor skills and now she's on the go!
  • Someone gave me a hand-me-down exersaucer and it is quickly becoming our new "must have" item!  I hadn't heard anything negative about it.  I started her in it at about 4 months, just stuck a blanket in the back so that she was supported.  She's loved it from the beginning and it's been cool to watch her progress and be able to turn around and play with all the toys.  And it hasn't discouraged mobility for her at all.  She just turned 6 months and I expect that she'll start crawling any day now.  She's already army crawling and turning.  So anyway, I would definitely recommend it!  It's a lifesaver when I'm trying to get dinner ready!
  • I got a used one from my cousin, LO is just about 6 months, and has been using his for about 3-4 weeks now.  He Loves it! he can spend about 30-40 min in there before getting done with it.  It helps us with getting things done, and also he does help encourage his core muscles, and hes learning new things, like spining the wheels that are on there and such.  The Daycare has one too he likes, theyll give him a book in there and hell page through it.  its just something other then laying on the floor and looking up for him.

also with his teething its helped out by getting his mind off the pain.

  • we don't have an exersaucer but we have a jumperoo and from what I've heard babies like the jumperoos a lot more.  I know my son LOVES it.  He would be in it all day if I let him! He goes crazy in it.  It makes him so happy and has really helped strengthen his legs and back/neck.  Definitely my favorite baby item.
