Re: anyone got belly mapping down?

  • Not sure how helpful this is but if your LO gets hiccups that is how I figured out when mine turned. My girl gets hiccups daily it seems though, so I could definitely tell when the little movements made their way down low and then the Dr confirmed she was head down. I really can't tell the difference between the head and butt myself just by feeling though.

  • I had an anterior placenta so I found it very hard to do the belly mapping until the very end. By 34 or 35 weeks I could definitely tell where his feet were...lodged up under my right ribs! Also, as PP said, I have hard you can tell by the hiccups. Mine were always on the lower left.

  • I got pretty good at it by the time DS2 was in the third trimester. The hiccups tip is good for figuring out head down, and I *think* the butt is bigger than the head. Can you feel kicks at all? That's how I would figure out where his feet and back were (he was always vertex, though, so no help with the breech). hth

  • Do you know if your placenta is on the front side (anterior)?  If it's not in the way, what you should feel is a for a long cannister shape (the back), which is the place to start.  If you're feeling a large round bulb at the top of your uterus, that narrows at the base instead of elongating, and doesn't connect to a thinner shaft, then she might still be heads up.  If instead, you get elongation on one side and thinner shaft extending out on the other side, with a hollow space beneath that, then she's likely head down.

Me too. I had an ultrasound a couple weeks ago which confirmed the baby in head down. Everyday she hiccups and I always feel it from the lower left side so I know she hasn't really moved much since then.
