Please don't hate me

Please don't hate me..

My mom always says she hates me for losing weight so fast when I tell her about this so please don't hate me?!

I have always been small. I'm 5' and weighed 115 prepregnancy, I gained 30lbs and am now only 100lbs. My weight keeps going down and I do blame breast feeding because I eat 24/7!! I'm constantly starving and always eating things high in protein just to fill me up. When does too much weight lose become a concern?

Re: Please don't hate me

  • You're definitely borderline. I am also 5' and was 95 pre-pg, technically underweight. I'm 105 now. Are you eating any nuts? They are high in protein and fat. I eat like 8 pb&js a day, plus put a spoonful in my oatmeal. I think it's helped maintain my weight through bfing.

In all seriousness, check your BMR.  https://www.fat2fitradio.com/tools/bmr/  That's the one I use.

  • Weight issues exist on both ends of the spectrum. I'm just at the other end...

Anyhow obviously watch your baby, as long as they are growing appropriately you are probably ok. BUT you risk shutting down your supply if you get to low. Protein is great, keep it up, but you need fat. Avocados, nuts, olive oil... Make it happen.

  • I eat a lot of almonds and put peanut butter on anything I can! My supply doesn't seem bad at all. Jovanni is still a little clunker 13lbs 8oz an I'm able to pump extra in the morning.

  • Are you tracking how much you're eating? Just like tracking helps some people realize they are eating a lot more than they think, it could help if you're not really eating as much as you think. I was borderline underweight prior to getting pregnant with DS1, and I would always track my calories and bump it up a little if I got below a certain point. If you find that you are eating more than enough calories to cover yourself and BFing, and you are still losing weight, I would see your doctor, as it could be a thyroid problem. Being underweight is just as dangerous and unhealthy as being overweight, so if your really cant control it, I would call your doctor for advice.

  • I'm also 5 feet and was back to my pre-preg weight of 100lbs by 6 weeks.  I have not weighed myself lately but if I dropped anymore it's cuz I am losing muscle from not exercising!  I used to work out a lot and my tone is now gone!  I think as long as you're eating fine and not too tired and keeping up with your baby you should be fine.

  • I'm very petite and have the same issue. I'm making sure I eat a lot of healthy fat and protein and still taking a prenatal vitamin.

  • I do know a friend who ended up with hyperthyroid after the birth of her children.  I you are really eating enough and cannot keep the weight on it might be good to ask a doc for a simple blood test.

  • Eat more carbs.  If you don't have enough sugar in your body, it will naturally feed on fat and protein so eating more nuts and avocados won't do anything.
