Infertility

MGH Fertility Clinic/Dr. Tanrikut

Meeting with the urologist/fertiliyt specialist at MGH tomorrow.  Dr. Tanrikut, Anyone have any experience with her (good or bad, I wont mind!)

 About us,

I have a 5 almost 6 year old son from a previous relationship.  Fiance has no kids.  I am 31, he is 44.  A semen analysis last month showed ZERO sperm.  He had one in 2007 that showed about 500,000 which at least gives some hope that he had some at sometime.  His volume and morphology was low at that time.

Two months ago I finally got him to believe me that the synethetic testosterone he was and has been taking for many many years was completely killing his sperm count and that he needed to come off of it and see a specialist.  Fast forward till tomorrow!!

His test levels have ranged dramatically ove the psat few years at one point it was down to a 42 all the way up to 962 when he is on injectible testosterone.  Currently he is bordering low (although his primary said the synethetic test is not out of his system yet) and his free testosterone is low.

To make matters worse, he was a body builder in the early 90's and used anabolic steriods for about 8-9 years.  His primary assumes that that is the reason for this issues with natural testosterone production.

My completely internet only education guess is that at some point she will prescribe something (clomid, nolvadex, HCG, HMG), too see if his counts come up??.  Hope it something soon because living with him off of testosterone is like dealing with a preteen girl in her prime  (sorry, thats not nice!!!)

Anyone have any experience or thoughts or success you want to share with us?  I have read a bunch of the threads and they are all great help!

I know everyone is different but thoughts on clomid, hcg, fertilityblend, maca root?  All things I have read about but would love personal experience thoughts

Thanks..well wishes to all

Marie

  • Welcome to the board!  Our urologist is out of Boston Medical and was great.  I've got to imagine anyone at MGH is great too, but I don't remember her name from when we were looking.

Your dead-on as far as the steroids impacting his test levels.  They can rebound from casual use, but consistent use over years is a bigger blow.  There are still options though.  Your urologist should definitely be able to come up with a plan of attack.  She should also check for any blockages- just because you know his test levels are a problem doesn't mean there couldn't be other barriers.

Just get ready to hurry up and wait.  It takes 3 months after you make a change to really see the results in a SA.  The hardest part about MFI (for me) is the waiting.

Feel free to PM me if you need any support.  There's also a weekly MFI check in on Sunday nights for women who are all in the same boat.
