Static Solutions

I'm hoping you ladies have some brilliant ideas for me.  Lily has inherited my crazy static-y hair.  It's insane how much static our hair produces.  In grade 9 Science class I won a class competition for who could get a balloon to stay on the wall the longest by rubbing it on their head.  Most people's fell off in about 2-5 minutes.  Mine was still up at the end of class, which was 74 minutes long.  I never really found a solution for my hair, it just got slightly better as I got older.  I need to find a solution for Lily, please!

Re: Static Solutions

  • We rub Audrey's hair with a dryer sheet.  She keps one in her coat pocket for when she gets to school.

With all the stuff about how bad those sheets are for you, is that safe?  I don't know what is unsafe about them, is it only released when it gets hot in the dryer?

  • My grandma used to spray our hairbrushes with the same static spray she used on laundry.

I have no idea, but it's her hair, so as long as she is not eating her hair, I would think it's fine?  The dryer sheet would be my recommendation also.

I know they are more dangerous when you heat them up, then the chemicals get released into the air.  Typically we only use them during the winter months and not everyday.  Usually one- two swipes takes care of it.

You could also try a leave in spray conditioner.   This might weigh the hair down some.

That's what I was going to say. We use the free and clear kind.

I hadn't thought of conditioner.  That might actually be what made the difference for me, too.

And I'll keep the dryer sheets as back-up.  Thanks for the ideas!
