I got invited to a shower that is being held at a Country Club. I don't see an issue with it, but I others that were invited have made some rude comments - in which I say "Don't go then". I know the guest list is fairly large and the family is a part of the club.
What's your opinion on a baby shower being held at a Country Club?

I am curious about the comments that you say are being made about the venue.
I think it sounds lovely.

That it's snooty, and complaining about having to dress up (which I always thought you dressed up for a shower event anyway). That it's a way of "showing off" how much money is being put forward - as to "compete" with other family members.
Sounds like your friends have been drinking some haterade?
And yes, I always dress up for a shower, even if it's in someone's home.

HATERADE. Yes!
Sounds like some jealousy or envy there.
Get dressed up and enjoy cake. Geez man. If they don't like it then don't go. No one is forcing them to show up.
Shoot, I'd love to go to a shower at a country club.

What?! This is the only way I'm going!
But in seriousness, I was going to throw my friend a shower a a golf club, just because it's pretty. Like PP asked, what were the objections?
Always Sunny's back b-tches!
It's quite easy to say NO, right? I, however, am looking forward to a good meal - haha.
LOL- I agree with the haterade! If the hosts can afford to have it at a club, that's great. A lot of clubs require members to spend a certain amount per year, so this may be an easy way for the host to fulfill their annual requirement.
Honestly, the guests are going to some trouble to go shopping for a gift, it's nice to treat them to a nice meal and get together. I always get dressed up for showers, so I don't know why they're complaining about that.
As people always say, it's an invitation and not a summons. If they don't like it, they can just decline. More yummy food for everyone else :-)
Green with jealousy.
When you've been married this long, you need a ticker to remind you.

Um, part of the benefits of belonging to a cc or yacht club or a racquet club are to be able to have events there and not have to have them at your house. Anyone that hates on going to a cc for an event is petty and jealous. I have literally never heard of anything so ridiculous. And, FYI, often times the venues just charge for food-part of the benefits of membership are not having to pay site rental fees.

Everyone in my family belongs to country clubs. We, and most members, tend to hold most of our events there because it's just easier. I don't see how it's any different then having an event at a restaurant.
Who cares? I went to a baby shower at a CC last year. It was lovely.
