Infertility

IUI#2 = BFN

I had my beta today and it was negative.  I'm really upset but I almost feel numb if that makes any sense? I knew it was unlikely that IUI would work since we have MFI, but I still had hope!  Now it's time to move on to IVF but not until the end of March at the earliest, since we're going on vacation. We have an IVF consult on Monday. Two months seems like so far away to get started! Even though I know logically it's not so much time in the long run.

Thanks for listening. I really needed to share with someone.

  • So sorry :( My DH and I are in our 2ww (6 days in) of our 2nd IUI also. I'm not very optimistic seeing as we are in the same boat... MFI. I had nothing come back in our testing, and I ovulate normally. My RE also said that they were going to switch to IVF after this cycle if we get a BFN, which I'm pretty much assuming will happen since IUI #1 I had 4 follies and a decent sample from him and still got a BFN. What was your issue with your DH's sample? Ours was motility and count. Bad combo for getting any results with IUI I've read. But we also just found out that our Insurance makes us do 3 cycles of IUI before IVF which I think is utterly stupid if the RE says its unlikely to work. Hoping to get around that and move on to IVF next round also if we don't have luck in 8 days! Best of luck to you both!

  • Sorry to hear your IUI didn't work. :-(   Enjoy your vacation. Kick back, relax, and take your mind off TTC for a moment.

I wish you the best of luck with your IVF. I am cycling in March/April too!

  • so sorry about the IUI....youll def have a better chance w IVF though! We also have MF (hubby has a repaired varicocele, low morphology/motility ie lazy swimmers) and we had two IUI's fail. I was so disappointed! But I knew they wouldnt work...my ins co. required them first. Two months isnt that long, go enjoy your vacation! When you get back you can start to prep your body....during my wait for my IVF I lost my extra weight, cut out excess sugar, saturated fats, caffeine, alcohol, etc) and made sure i was taking a prenatal/folic acid, etc...and also only ate organic meats, fruits and veggies. Many say its supposed to help a lot to be ready nutrition wise. GL and have fun on vaca!!!

Good luck with this cycle! I really hope you get your BFP. My DH had a post-wash count of 4.2 million on the first IUI and 4.9 million the next day. Those were good numbers for him.  I actually don't know what his other numbers were but they've all been low in past SAs/IUIs.

Im sorry you're insurance requires 3 IUIs. Our previous insurer wanted us to do 3 too but we switched in January and don't have a requirement. Maybe your RE can do a peer review and convince your insurance company that IVF is best for you guys?

Thanks so much to everyone for your kind words. I really needed it tonight!

  • so sorry it wasn't a positive result.  even though you logically may think it won't work, it still hurts when it actually doesn't.

  • I am so sorry that your iui didn't work.  It hurts even when you don't think it will work.  That time before the ivf will fly by!  Make time to make some great memories with the hubby during that time because although ivf is not as bad as I thought it will be, it wears you out :P So you will not feel like doing too much.  But it is not bad just tiring.  Good luck!!!

  • Sorry your IUI didn't work. I had 5 failed IUI's before moving on to IVF and I know how stressful that next step can be. I think while two months seems like far away, the forced break is a nice way for you and you DH to unwind and spend quality time together on vacation. The stress of IF takes a toll on relationships so value the time together and unwind before you take on the next step of IVF.  Sending you good luck and hoping you enjoy vaca.
