August 2011 Moms

Boo.

I went to the doctor today (finally) about the many, MANY hormonal issues I am having.

The verdict is that I need to wean Lincoln asap. She thinks the nursing is what is causing my problems, and even if it isn't, she said there is not much that can be done for me treatment-wise while I am still nursing.

I am praying it will be harder on me than it will be on Lincoln but he could surprise me.

I absolutely hate that I am not weaning on my terms, and I have already caught some grief over it, but I feel like what Lincoln needs most is a healthy mom and if this is what I need to do, then it is what I need to do.

I keep telling myself we can be proud we made it to 18 months.

  • You are an all-star for making it to 18 months! And yes, it is hard to give it up, especially when it's not really on your terms, but remember that happy mom = happy baby. You can't take care of your LO if you don't take care of yourself.

You got that right - and you should definitely be proud of yourself - Making it to 18 months  is quite the accomplishment. Whoever says otherwise is a douche canoe.

  • I think you are amazing for making it to 18 months, you have every right to be proud!  And I totally agree that L needs a healthy mama.  I'm sorry it's not on your terms, but it sounds like you are making the right decision.  Big hugs!

  • 18 months is nothing to be ashamed of!! Maybe you can just wean him a little faster than he normally would. Just encourage him to stop instead of just quitting cold turkey. You can do it mama!!

  • Thanks, everyone.

He has already self-weaned to nursing only when he wakes up or before bed, but he can take it or leave it for nap time.

I am really hoping it will be harder on me than on him.

And of course, he started getting sick last night and has a high fever and extreme irritability today so I'm like, 'Is this a sign? If I weren't nursing he wouldn't be getting the concentrated antibodies, he's have one less liquid" blah, blah, blah. I? Am a hot mess.
