I'm in the same boat. I love my job, but there isn't a remote or part time option, which would be ideal since we don't need a ton of extra income each month. As a result, I'm headed back to work but kind of still hoping for something to come along.
Your best bet is to either open your own business or do something like Mary Kay. I work from home, but it's the same job I worked at for years in the office. My hours are more flexible but I still need child care.
It depends on your skill set. Medical coding can be done from home. I know a girl who does Mary Kay and she does pretty well with it- but she is gone a lot of evenings.
Most actual work from home jobs stem from current employers allowing you to telecommute. If you have to spend money in order to do the job, it's probably not worth it.
This! Everyone I know who works from home has the opportunity as part of what their employer offers- that's how it was for me.
Also ditto PP that you'll need childcare- it is impossible to work from home and watch LOs.
If you just need a small amount of supplemental income, could you babysit/nanny/provide before and after school care for other kids, pet sit, etc. that you could do with your own kids? Or maybe get a PT retail job during hours that DH isn't working?
Someone mentioned MaryKay. If you decide to go into direct sales such as Mary Kay, Pampered Chef, etc, do your homework. Most of them require you to spend money upfront on products for testers/demos, you even have to buy the sales slips and bags. Then you have to keep certain level of sales for example $500 a month, to get the wholesale price, otherwise you get it at retail, so you don't make money from day one. You also have to have a very outgoing personality and willing to pressure poeple to buy product from you. A lot of women are very successful doing it, but it's not for everyone!
I don't work from home, but I figured that if I did, I my "work from home dream job" is to be photographer. I know it's not entirely from home since you need to go out and take photos, but most of the work is done touching up photos from your computer. I haven't taken photography classes since pre-digital era, but I know they do even offer classes online for using digital imaging software. Anyway, if you develop a good photog skill, you can make quite a bit of money doing weddings, maternity and newborn photos, senior portraits, etc.
i will begin doing this next month! i resigned from my director level job to work as a part time consultant with one day in the office. will work rest from home remotely.
I will probably only do this until September when B will start DC
